Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I says to myself “yay, this looks like it’s going to be a nice ride!” We start at a breakneck pace, and as we approach a stop sign I say to myself “oh chance for a breather” just to see everyone storming past without even slowing down.

let’s just say, it was a good year or two before I attempted another group ride again. At a different shop of course.
There were stops we would stop for others were treated as a yield.

In the beginning. The first club I joined, When I first attempted to do the Sat.fast Ride. I got the impression the woman running it would rather that I drop dead. I got dropped and left on every ride. Which was a no drop. So I started training. Hard . 30 minutes every morning, 4 nights a week and hard long rides on the weekend. Not to mention dieting. I was pissed. I hate bullys, of any kind.
I went back to the ride after a month. Didn't get dropped. Finished with the pack. Easy. She was fuming. She called me out for anything she could think of after that.. I pulled to hard, I went to slow, After a while people were starting to see it. Comments were made. It became a joke.
At the halfway point we used to stop at a diner for breakfast.. whatever she ate didn't sit well with her one day and she got dropped. At one of the stop signs we used to obey someone said," maybe we should wait for____y". I let them have it, "you people dropped me every week I came out, nobody ever waited for me, you wanna wait? You go ahead, I'm riding" . I left, they came with me.
I was going to quit riding that ride, but I had made some really good friends in that club that I still ride with today. They convinced me to keep going. So I did. One special Saturday we did a long ride, like 80 miles. Some how I ended up on her wheel, and she launched. I sat on her wheel making it obvious she wasn't going to shake me. But I wouldn't pull. Screw her. She wanted to show me up, made an ass of herself in the process. And ended up quiting the club. One of my buddy's took over the Saturday ride.
Some of the Strava koms I set back then still stand. Hatred can be motivating.

Improper list. So the date includes a ride, too?

that would be the goal...and going to Chipotle for the Datlas. I'd even buy plus i'll bring you a local favorite beverage. You might have heard of it - Coca Cola. I can also entertain you with stories of playoff wins by the might Owls.

Which would be first: the ride or the datlas?

I wouldn’t mind 4W/KG, but I’d need a significant improvement in FTP to get there.

Did an early group ride on Zwift. Fake miles better than none. Maybe.
