Last night's "Happy Hour" ride in warm temps paid off with the clearest views we've had in So Cal in a while. The buildings of downtown LA can be seen in the distance, and the twin peaks of Santa Catalina Island can be made out on the horizon.

I went to the lbs in Merida to buy tubes. I saw a brand new Benotto with downtube shifters. And of course rim brakes. The whole world is not yet beholden to Big Bicycle.

Also, I spent some time in C&V last evening and this morning. I learned, unequivocally that the Ishiwata hi-ten fork on the 414 does not have the death crown. There will be some off road riding when the weather cools down.

glad you liked the rack DougRNS. The picture you painted (wine on the couch after dinner) is perfect. The album "Hudson" has a lot of classic rock covers and is generally fun. They do "Woodstock", "Lay lady Lay" and "Up on cripple creek" for example.

Felt super weak on this mornings ride. Wife’s 5k race is tomorrow, she’s super nervous. After her race there is a cycle cross race I am thinking about doing. I still have not been able to clip in to my SPD pedals though.

When I first got my CX bike I did not have spd pedals or shoes, so I just used my road pedals (look Keo 2 max pedals), it was ok on plain simple gravel/grass, but once I had to dismount and walk on rooty and rocky terrain, my error in judgement became obvious.

Had a really mellow ride with the La Grange club today. Social pace. Planning for something more epic tomorrow. Plan to head for the hills, ideally with big john if we can work it out.

What pedals you got?
Have you loosened the tension bolts yet? If not get out that tiny Allen wrench and start clicking away. Don't go too far though, sometimes the bolt will come all the way out on you. But I'd start dialing both adjusters all the way out on one pedal and see if that does the trick. Once you can confirm you can clip in then I'd screw the adjusters all the way in, then count clicks as you dial them out so you can have even tension all around. Sometimes clip in will get a tad easier over the first 20 clip-ins...

A couple hot days here. I went out and rode, regardless. Didn't go really fast. Funny thing was, after low 90s for the first couple miles, dropping maybe 10 degrees while riding through the tree tunnels of Woodside felt almost cool.

It’s supposed to rain tonight so the course will be muddy, plus obstacles I have to dismount to jump over. Don’t want to use road shoes for that.

Check for some interference like was said above. I guess pics of shoe soles might help.

If it's muddy, you might want to go with flat pedals in any case, because the mud can foul clipless pedals and they might either not allow you to clip in, or not allow you to clip OUT - picture approaching a barrier and being unable to dismount.

Thanks t2p possibly, we'll see! We have a piano in the home that she will hear somewhat regularly, so that's a logical first start. I can play a little bit of guitar (not much tbh). I have a fender acoustic that is collecting dust in our garage, maybe I'll try to expose her to that too.
we did not have a piano - so it was electronic keyboards ... started with small yamaha keyboard and got progressively larger yamaha keyboards to finally full size (76-88 keys) with weighted keys
issue with acoustic guitar with the little ones can be the size and ‘action’ - many (if not most) acoustics will have the strings spaced further away from the fretboard (and they can be harder to manipulate) - so a small electric at that age can actually be a plus ... we had a sweet small 3/4 size Samick acoustic - but the kids still has better success with the electric when they were just starting to play ...
kids at early ages can pick up this stuff quickly ... amazing

I prefer plastic pin pedals. Not quite as grippy as metal pins but they make slightly less unsightly gouges in your flesh and/or bones. Cult Daks are my faves. Odyssey Twisted are nice too. There's another Odyssey pedal that looks nice but haven't tried them yet.

Another hour on the trainer today. Yesterday, TT bike z2, mostly in position.
Today, Z race, "railways and rooftops. 15 miles of 1 on 1. We were pretty evenly matched and it came down to a sprint. I won, b/c I think he left it too late; he was for sure bigger/more powerful and I was dreading a drag race. Overall effort around ~35 min at 4.1. Although it dropped quite a bit in the final kilometers, match sprint style. It was fun and we congratulated each other afterward.
Very different experience than the Tour de Watopia event a couple days ago. More steady power and we were pretty civil with taking turns till the end.

Today, Z race, "railways and rooftops. 15 miles of 1 on 1. We were pretty evenly matched and it came down to a sprint.
