I got invited to join a “gravel” ride with some friends.
I took my CX bike. Reminder I am a roadie with very few off-road skills.
The gravel part of the route was fine. The paved part, obv, was no problem.
The somewhat technical single track with wet leaves and wet roots and huge rocks scared the crap out of me. I had to dismount and walk several times. About 3/4 into the ride, it became very hilly with loose gravel bordering on MTB type terrain, so I turned back and wished my friends good luck.
I think I need to either stick to the road, or attend some off-road skills clinics.
One of the guys fell several times, and I believe everyone fell at least once.

Decided to hit the gym in PHX. Usually I get on the bike and but today I decided to lift. They actually have BB which is nice. I started with dead lifts. 7 sets of 10 slowly increasing the weight. That felt good but man have I gotten weak. I used to be able to deadlift 350, I won’t say what I did today.
Did some leg extensions, leg curls, press. Then I went to some BB bicep curls. first 3 sets good. Last set I picked up the bar and my back tweaked. Holy **** it hurts to breathe. Getting old sucks.

I'm guessing it's some of the people here.

When was the last time you saw a 20-year-old named Callie?
At any rate, you certainly aren't on a first-name basis with them.

That time of the year where I need help with wheels. The wheels are for my checkpoint. Plan is to use these wheels for the road but I want gravel specific wheels so I can run wider slicks in case I do want to venture out in the wilderness. I’ll use the current wheel set for knobbies.
So originally I was torn between the boyd prolouge gvl and the bontrager paradigm 25 comp. But I can’t find any anctual reviews on these. The user reviews of the bontrager are not good and they are heavy, also at 500.00 that’s a lot of money for a possible **** wheel.
So I have expanded my horizon.
first up.
Elite Marvel G35. 35 mm deep, 22 mm internal 33 external weight 1460 $658.00
Ican G25. 50 mm deep. 25 internal not sure on external I think 32 mm weight 1510
$750.00 free shipping
Airwolf carbon wheel set. 45 mm deep. 24 internal 30 external DT swiss 240 or 350 hubs 1441 weight
$668.00
Hunt Carbon 35 xtra wide. 35 mm deep, 25 mm internal 31 external 1454 weight $850.00. These are on sale now and don’t know if they still will be when it’s time to buy which would make them not possible.
Thoughts?

In any event it is nice to put a face to a name.

I ended my streak of oatmeal for breakfast today. Scrambled eggs, hash browns with country gravy, killer sausage (with a casing, not that lumpy crap), waffles and maple syrup.

I met a cutie named Callie in PDX once, I still think of her as a twenty-something but I guess she's coming up on the big five-oh now.

It’s a Ridley. Crossfire maybe? Crabon fiber frame which is too stiff, Ultegra 6700 drivetrain and mediocre cable disc brakes. I don’t do CX but use this for gravel and easy/simple trails.

We made it to Manayunk and back. The energy at the marathon was amazing! It almost made me want to retry running! We were at the 20 mile mark. We saw our friend and cheered, it was a surprise and he seemed genuinely happy and surprised to see us. I did yell “allez!” but no devil costume.

Tentative musing - do the Boulder Rez 3/4 Marathon in August, then get revenge and redemption at Dallas. Except that involves going back to... Dallas.

Same. Might just go all out on the greasy food tip and have a dozen wings while viewing the Seahawks game. Or maybe drive out to the Brown Mug in Winslow if they're open. They only occasionally open on Sundays, and for only a few hours, so that might not be a possibility. They may just have the best green chile enchiladas on the Mother Road. I've only been as far east as Gallup though. Both Gallup places I tried were lacking but I bet NM might have something better along the road somewhere.

Another Twilight Harbor race, 1st / 11. Pretty cagey and hard despite somewhat low AP. Lots of attacks and mini breaks.
In the last lap, my MO lately has been to attack more and maybe take a hero move, prioritizing a workout. Today I decided to "race" it and play it more defensively, and it worked. Capped it off with another 10 minutes with the A pace bot after the race.
one of many moves, right after my bridge. We rolled turns at 5-5.5 for a few min.
