The humble Rubber Band. It makes your bike a fairly rigid plain allowing you to easily lean your bike almost anywhere without it toppling over.


This may not be too effective with a very heavy handlebar bag or low riders

Probably this, a rear brake cable stop purpose-built by Universal for use of center-pull brakes on Cinellis. The single arm goes significantly further to the left that any other cable stop because Cino Cinelli (being Cino Cinelli) designed his frames with a seat post bolt that was significantly longer than anything anyone else used (expect for Windsor and other Cinelli copy-cats). Use this hanger on any other bike, and the cable will be off center to the right. Universal also made a hanger in this same basic design, but for use on all other frames - use that one on a Cinelli, and the cable will be off-center to the left. The Cinelli bolt is enough longer than everyone else's that it would challenging, perhaps impossible, for a hack like me to make it work. And because there is zero clearance between the bolt and the seat post, the hangers that dangle from the middle of the seat post bolt will not work.

So I found this one on eBay and paid an embarrassing amount of money for it. It doesn't even have an adjusting barrel because, of course, Universal included that in the brake lever, so who needs one at the cable stop? Anyone who wants the advantages of aero brake levers, that's who. Of course, Universal was not thinking of such things when the 61 center-pulls were au courant and neither was Cinelli.

But I think it looks cool and it makes for a mildly interesting story along with being another example of the quirkiness of Cino Cinelli, who thought racers should be on 26" wheels and using longer crank arms.

On the “his” of his and hers Cinelli, this hanger keeps swooping downward where the qr lever hits the seat stay

thats why the PO put a qr lever on for the seat bolt

glad yours works.

is it any different from “hers?”

and is it keyed on the nds?

There are certain immutable laws of the universe and one is that if i used an elastic, it would snap when I needed it. I use a clothes peg. Squeeze the brake lever and then jam in the clothes peg so the lever won't release.
No photos handy but can take one if someone can't visualize it....

Mine clears just fine. It looks to my suspect eye as though, somewhere along the way, someone abused yours by bending it where it swoops away from the seat post bolt. It looks like a sharper angle than on mine (which is a bit less than 90 degrees) and the one photo of yours shows a hint of a bulge in the bend, the kind one would expect from bending it more than it wanted to go. (For those of you who have not seen Universal's take on a rear brake cable hanger, it is not a flat piece of metal, but has rounded edges like on a post-CPSC Campy front derailleur cage that I would think would not take kindly to being forced to bend further.)

Is mine keyed? I don't remember. I don't think so, but I'm too lazy to loosen the nut, check, and retighten the nut.
