‘84 Trek 720

This beautiful touring bike came in for a long needed restoration. It has a family history of touring much of the eastern USA, this being the wife/mommy bike. This couple (our friends) had towed their 2 little ones everywhere they toured, family style. The bikes have sat much of the time since. Today, I rolled it out of the shop for an amazing test ride. The full 531 frame is relatively light, smooth, quiet and wants to roll effortlessly. I won’t forget this one, it’s been a great season in the shop with some interesting bikes.

The shop scales rang it up at 24#11oz. No wonder it rolled out so nicely.

Cool bike- was it a Trek refin?

I think that might be more of an 83 model. It still has the old style Trek seat stay caps and no bottle bosses on the seat tube.

Sweet bike!

(This is for the general membership, not so much you as I know this is common knowledge to you )
I have owned several ‘80s Treks of all sorts and find that guessing the year it was rolled out to dealers or outfitted by owner from bare frame...the only way you can know for sure is the ser# frame braze date. This one has an ‘83 braze date, ‘83 date on BB, beyond that it’s a mystery. Brochures offer a portion of info mixed with a portion of confusion in terms of components. This gorgeous bike was just dropped off to my friend, it’s his late mother’s bike that he saw much of as a toddler towed around the countryside. Cool story.
