Cyclocross Bikes for 11 year old

I am looking for a low cost solution to getting my son riding on unpaved bike paths. We are planning to ride the GAP and C&O trails this summer and need the right bike. He currently rides a Fuji Ace 24 road bike which has 24x1 tires. i ordered larger tires today in the hopes they will fit his frame but I'm not optimistic. My limited research into youth gravel bikes has turned up a model by Giant and another by Diamondback. I am looking for more options and a bike store in Massachusetts or surrounding area that would carry preowned options. Any recommendations?

A road bike with 1" should be just fine unless it's seriously rough.

My usual response to questions like this: Islabikes USA https://www.facebook.com/IslabikesUS...TvH_RY75jF_W9c

Expensive but with fantastic resale value (80%+ after a couple of years?). Look up the Luath range.

Bart Kid?s Road Frame Set | SOMA Fabrications

Your little speed demon will be dazzled by this chrome plated beast. The Bart is very close in quality to the adult Soma's using investment cast fork lug and dropouts, not stamped/extruded bits you find on many kid's bikes and TIG'd welds.
- CrMo and high tensile steel tubes
- Lugged steel fork (1-1/8" threadless steerer)
- Rack and fender eyelets
- Fits 57mm road caliper bikes
- Max tire clearance 20" x 32 to 35mm
- Get it with our mini kit or experiment with other parts.
(Optional mini kit includes downsized shallow drop bars (33cm wide, 112mm) and forged and polished alloy cranks(140mm 40-34t), 57mm reach brakes, and 20" tires and aluminum wheelset)
- Finish: Chrome-plated

Are you looking for drop bar only or would a flat bar bike be okay? For flat bar bikes, there's the Woom (size 5 or 6, depending on height), the Trek Dual Sport (26" wheels), PreVelo Alpha 4. Or this one that I noted in another thread: https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p...nshkmntbb24bjp

I know people who have done cyclocross with the F24, although that comes stock with 1" tires; not sure if they switched out the tires.
