We were Both in Eugene in the 70's... and Crossed paths again in the 80's at the SF end of The GG Bridge

He asked directions , I obliged..

His being hit by a car on a ride to the Sonoma County Coast *, a few years ago, did not help.

Petaluma CA, is in that* county ..

A famous name, I didn't know he learned the trade from Al Eisentraut. Back in the day an Eisentraut frame was quite prestigious; I met a local racer who had a cool black over chrome Eisentraut frame.

Wow,

I heard notes about his framebuilding business going up for sale just a couple of years ago.

Did he have a bad bicycle crash prompting him to sell out?

I think he was just getting up there in years and wanted to retire. Wayne from The Touring Store recently sold his business for that reason. A well known bike and ski shop in my area just closed for the same reason. A co-owner who sold me my first touring bike back in '98 was no spring chicken back then.

Age, of course, was part of it.

But, he did suffer from a broken kneecap in 2016, which did affect his ability to work in the framebuilding shop.
