Bout the same. Without more information, including where you live and coupled with pictures, it is impossible to give an appraisal of a vintage bicycle.

Colnago 1970 or 1971
Bought from original owner in 1978. Has been repainted about that time. Original equipment.
Whats it worth? Thinking about selling back to the original owner as he raced it in Europe, South America and USA. Will post pics when I’ve got 10 post.

How much did you pay for it?
Are you friends with the original owner?
Where was it repainted? Factory Repaint? Stencils vs Decals? Painted graphics? Era appropriate graphics.
Condition is everything with old bikes. And, some might be whether it needs a complete overhaul and cleanup, or is tuned and ready to ride.
Major component group?
Sewups vs Clinchers?
Also include photos of the lugs, fork, and bottom of the bottom bracket. There are a lot of fake Colnagos out there. Also a few different models which may be discerned by lug work.

An early Colnago always causes my ears to perk up. I'll try to assist once representative photos have been posted.

I’ve known him and his brother for 55 years

No decals or graphics

Could be ridden today if new tires are installed
Few dings in paint from moving around my shop for 30 years. Haven’t ridden it but a few times in 40 years.
Campagnolo equipped
Sewups vs Clinchers?
Sewups Fiamme rims small flange hubs

As a general idea, on E-Bay, your frame is probably worth around $400. A lack of graphics, and perhaps some shop wear may push the value down slightly. Significant dents will push the value down a lot.
A good complete Campagnolo Nuovo Record groupset, wheels, seat + etc is probably worth another $400 or so. (Dura Ace, or other would drop the value somewhat).
Campagnolo brakes are nice, but for one reason or another, other brands such as Universal were often used.
So, your bike could be worth around $700 to $800, although, sometimes they're easier to sell in pieces than as a whole.
Being relatively early will give a slightly higher value, especially if date codes on all the components match.
You never answered how much you paid for the bike, but I'm guessing somewhere around $500 or so, which would put the current value slightly above the value from 40 years ago.
However, if you're wishing to sell it as a deal between friends... then hitting back to the original sale price would be a fun target.

Thank you for your response, as soon as I reach 10 post I will post pics.
I am missing the connection between what I paid for it and what it actually worth today.

So, if you're selling it back to a friend, or riding buddy, then that would be a good starting place to consider.
If your friend gave you some kind of super friends and family deal, then hitting him back with the highest possible appraisal value would seem inappropriate.

Nice bike --- id guess $600
the fact that its been raced is of little consequence, -- several of mine have been and across different continents too, but itmatters little as i was never a name athlete , mostly pack fodder.
but the original owner might have a sentimental attachment if you want to put the screws to him for a couple more bucks -- who knows

Colnagos of this vintage are in high demand. The value here is in the frame, components can be interchanged and are readily available.
It looks like a nice project.

I sent you a pm earlier today. Not sure, with you being a new member and all if you need a minimum number of posts to send/receive pm’s.
With the frame details in your photos, I think you are about right with the guess of 1971. Could be later, but without original paint and decals, it would be hard to tell. And, as you probably already know, according to the timeline, estimates are usually +/- 1 year

Again, no real quantitative opinion on value of this particular bike, just trying to get to my "10" in order to edit and upload some pics for my previous posts.
