Helmet with good ventilation?
Summer is around.
I have kind of a cheap helmet currently and looking for a new one. I am not a racer, just rider .
Any good recommendation for helmet that has ok ventilation and keeps your head from heating up?

+ 1 .. I've had a few Giro helmets and they all seem to ventilate well.

I was just thinking to myself that I've yet to have a helmet that I thought was hot. Then I remember that I shave my head. Solution: Shave your head. Then every helmet will be a summer helmet.

I've never heard any of my local cycling friends complain about their road type helmets in Texas summer heat. The helmets are probably all about the same in ventilation.
I couldn't feel any difference in ventilation between my $20 Bell Solar and $75 Bell Formula MIPS. The latter is a better helmet, but not cooler in summer heat. Both are comfortable. I have long hair, usually wear a bandana under my helmets, and have never felt uncomfortable from summer heat due to the helmet. I usually never even notice my helmet once it's on my head, unless I mount a video camera up there -- it can wear on my neck after a long day.
Get whatever helmet has plenty of vents, fits your head and your budget. Bell and Giro are very comparable in quality, features, prices and comfort, with small differences such as straps and buckles.
But for time trial aero helmets, sure, ventilation matters, especially in hotter months.

Living in Tucson, I go for big ventilation. My current helmet is an LG Quartz II.

Even if you go to the bike shop to "try on", you need to know how the adjustments are to be made for that particular helmet.
But "how to keep head from heating up" ride slower...much slower when the temperature begins to soar and humidity does the same. This doesn't mean your bike ride will somehow become compromised. Its what and why you're training for. Maybe not a race but mostly for fun and fitness or just hanging in there on a group ride.
Other thing about sweat: that's a different but related thing with the ventilation system. The sweat dripping down the forehead into the eyes hurts.

I like my Foray, in fact I have 2...maybe ventilation is ok everywhere except for the forehead area, where sweat can build and saturate pads which then have to be "wrung out" occasionally. YMMV. But otherwise yeah, it's the "poor mans" Synthe.
