Welcome Jim. Glad to have you here. I guess I'm still just a kid. I'm only 70.

Thought I'd ask the older group rather than the younger 50+ crowd. I'm 70 and my Litespeed has been kicking my butt lately (not so with my CF Cannondale). I've enjoyed every mile since I bought it in 2001, but lately.....
Is this a sign that it's time to sell the Litespeed?
The thought of selling it kinda chokes me up.

The Litespeed just seems heavier than it used to. And some days its a real struggle to ride into the continuous headwinds. And keeping up with other "less heavy" riders is next to impossible.
But when I get home after a ride I'm glad I have the bike. What to do?

Run bike run Duatholon
Much to my surprise I was able to jog outdoors all winter without breakin' anything
The Minneapolis duatholon 3mi 15mi 3mi......seems manageable for me to train for.
Any of you folks do this kind of event?

I did one a couple years ago (5K-20K-5K) and might do it again in June if my running injury is healed by then. The best advice I can give -- and which I'll follow myself this time! -- is to pace yourself over the entire event and not just by segment. Basically, my mistake was that I ran the first 5K as if it were a 5K race, then the 20K bike route again like it was its own race, and then in the final 5K I had nothing left. I actually did OK, but probably could have won my AG if I'd had any gas left in the tank for the 3rd segment.
So think about the overall distance and plan your pacing accordingly. And yes, that final bike-to-run transition is a real *****!

Thanks
I guess trial runs would be a good place to start and get a feel for the process.
The distances don't appear intimidating.....on paper :-)

Cleaned and lubed both bikes on Saturday (its been a while) and found that the rear tire on the Litespeed was FLAT. Found a tiny pinhole on the rim side of the tube about 2" from the valve. Checked the rim and the rim tape but found no burrs or sharp pokey things. Replaced the tube.
The tire was still inflated this morning so did my usual ride and had no problems.
Was the tube only half inflated on the ride home during my last ride? Who knows? Today's ride was great so the Litespeed will not be going on the auction block any time soon.

There were at least 5 of us > 70 among the 15 riders on our Tuesday morning club ride yesterday. 33 miles, 15 mph average, a beautiful Spring morning ride through parts of Woodridge, Lisle, Naperville, and Aurora, Illinois with a stop at Panera Bread for coffee and conversation.

Got in a few miles this AM, all city streets. No body else out, can't wait to summer.
Local cop followed me for a ways, no ticket today , I think he rides a little.

I had the tires and gearing changed on my Versailles to match my current abilities. Works fine now.

New also to this forum. Will be 65 in about two months. I have a question. Just purchased a 2014 Giant Escape 3. How do I adjust the handlebars up just a little? Thank-you. And not sur eif this is the right place to ask? Sorry.

If you have a friendly local bike shop, might be worth stopping by there. Or, lots of stems available online. For example: Bikeman: 25.4 Threadless
Likely BF subforums for questions along these lines are here, or Fifty-five plus, Bicycle Mechanics, General Cycling. Or others.
