opted to dial down the sprinter choice given the lack of opportunities in the race.
for climbers, came down to a choice of dani martinez/formolo vs woods/de la cruz for me. opted for the former, primarily because of the angliru.
not taking rogliç (or kuss) meant i could slide another decent climber onto the roster. looks they picked right back up from where they left off tho. i’ll need to cajole 1000 points + out of formolo to make that horrible decision less of an impact. early analysis: not likely.

How bad is Danny boy? Didn't see that he had withdrawn. Heard it was his foot?

Yeah, I was gonna go with just one sprinter (Bennett or Ackermann) but couldn't decide on which ...so took both. Maybe just maybe, they can finish 1-2 enough, getting max points in the sprint stages and justify it. Not sure if that's feasible, didn't feel like doing the math.

Yes I was weak in faith that he wouldn't match last years performance after the tour and his classics racing.
Dude how awesome is Dan Martin right now!?
Instant regrets: Pulling out carapaz, not believing in Roglic, thinking that either Woodsie or Martinez would be able to stay upright. Vivá la Vuelta!

Not sure what's going on with his foot, can't find anything about it. He finished 4:29 down, bummer. Geeze though Woods was 18 minutes off So I guess it's all about stage wins for this GT huh? So much for my GC prospects though if I was serious I woulda stayed with carapaz. Or Dan Martin. Gosh how did I miss that? He wasn't looking great to the start of this truncated season but looks to be in form now!

I thought maybe I'll get wild and go with Morkov, maybe I'll get some points and he'll get leeway for some of the less mountainous stages. Or he'll end up shepherding Bennett everywhere that's not a sprint stage.
I have faith that Dan Martin will fade. Don't kick yourself long term about that. I'm just glad Carapaz won the coin toss with Pinot.
you had to flip a coin on that decision? if pinot had been a 10, 12 or 14-pointer...okay, very attractive and priced to move. but a two-point difference (essentially even)?
danny martin at 8 points...definitely priced to move.

Well, Carapaz was a steal and a deal compared to Froome (whom it appears nobody but Israel start up is willing to take a chance on these days - and I bet Brailsford has some regrets about sending him there tonight). Pinot is psychologically fragile (Carapaz clearly isn't), but I still think Pinot's potential upside is immense - though hazardous to predict.
Dan Martin will ride himself into the ground within a week (historical pattern). Reap the benefits while you can. A fair choice if you are playing for points on a stray stage victory, but not the guy you put your eggs in a basket for, imo.

I think any of us could replace whomever is calling the shots at Israel Start up. The only rider on their squad (current or future) that I'd lobby to retain in their apparent roles is Dowsett (Martin's a keeper, but he ain't a GC contender, imo), and he's without a contract for next season at last report. They don't know beans in that organization.

coming back from injury...he's had some pretty decent one-day and stage race/gt results over the years. i can see him fading. i can also see him finishing on the back half of the top-12.

Legit almost spit and coughed on my soda, well done! Oof despondent is right though, 9 minutes back today ... Of course I had already forgotten I'd picked him. Argh are there any TTs this Vuelta?
