Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I’d like to keep the Passat 4 more years to give it to my kids, but nervous that we’re running into the same thing. Stuff keeps breaking and it’s only on 102k miles.

I am slowly re-doing this one. The original Future Shock 1.0 was replaced under warranty with the good one (2.0 hydraulic damping), and I've since changed the brakes to XT and crank to GRX 810. Just wheels and shifter/rear der. to do. Thinking about going Di2. Updated pic.

Those Williams numbers are comparable to Albany’s 60” average. Meanwhile , “nearby” Syracuse averages over 2X that amount at 128” inches. It just ain’t fair.

IKR, it’s a haul, it just feels nearby compared to Highland where I formerly lived.

I used to be OK riding at 108° just a few years ago, but now I feel like anything above 95 in the sun is just a big nope for me.
And we’re having a high of 86 today, a wood shop day. Tomorrow is a ride day.
But no sign of rain; it will likely also be a mowing day. The last for a few days.

Frontier has some good direct flights. In my flying days, I was willing to fly Frontier out of Cancun, four hours away, for the direct flight to Cleveland.

Is there a setting on an iPad, that adjusts how sensitive the screen is to taps? I am having to tap with more force than I would like.

I came across the weirdest, fakest ride on Strava

I clicked on a hill segment that I'd PRd this morning and noticed that the KOM is suspiciously fast, so I looked at the guy's ride. So odd. There's only speed data - no HR, cadence, power, etc, not even any device data. On this 74 mile "ride," the moving time and elapsed time are exactly the same. The map looks like it's just a route that was drawn on RideWithGPS or something - all sharp angles with no human wandering, just precise tracking down the middle of the roads, crosswalks, and paths -

The speed tracking is similarly artificial and angular.

What the hell motivates people to take the time to cook up something like this?

Mowing done. I realized I mowed this lawn for the second time this week. It didn't really need it for another day or two, but the wife cones home tomorrow and she likes the place to.look nice.Velo Vol .This is the non-stoney part of the (tree) farm. But as you can see, it functions as an oval driveway. And very nicely at that.

That tree there in the middle is a ceiba, the tree of life to the Maya. It's the one type of tree that didn't come down in the hurricane suffered in Belize, shortly before our arrival. There is one in a neighboring village that takes up a whole park with its crown. The first tier of horizontal branches are in the neighborhood of
40 feet long.

We had a good but sweaty ride. I am glad I had my Halo(tm). Dew point is 72. Sticky.

At the start of the ride, I noticed my RD would not go to the smallest cog. And a little lag even going to the second smallest. That means RD cable starting to fray inside shifter (I have been expecting this as last cable change was mid-April in advance of Mallorca trip), the cable has roughly 3500 miles on it. I economized my rear shifting and was able to finish the ride.

While on my ride, I got a text that one of our nurses just tested positive. We had a 2 hour bowling event yesterday for staff morale, and she was about 3 feet away from me for at least 30 minutes, so I am watching for any symptoms. Not

My routes show only the path traveled Does it even show any kind of time to the public? ¿Quien sabe? It shows me that, but anyone else? I doubt it lists my phone as the recording device, though it has never occurred to me to check
