He had never seen "Breaking Away"

My 26 YO son that is.

I know it's just a schmaltzy mid 70's coming of age movie, but still... you've never watched this?

He did enjoy the flick. I told him to pay close attention to the "race bikes" in the Little 500 section. Of course seeing all the now C&V is pretty cool as well.

Then we saw Django Unchained, I pointed out Dennis Christopher as Leonardo de Caprios lawyer (Leonide Moguy) being the same guy.

Well, I beg to differ. 100 mins of my life I'll never get back! The only decent part is where the idiot hero is racing with an 18-wheeler, and (unfortunately) doesn't get sucked under its wheels. If you want a great biking movie look out for "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" it's 10 mins shorter, far more realistic, and the acting and production is far better!

Harumph!

How about "BMX Bandits", starring a young Nicole Kidman?

I consider it a classic low budget film 70's film. Mostly comedy a little drama angst of comming of age and the bonus of biking in it. Never asked for a refund, love me some ini food

I lived in Bloomington and was riding bikes when Breaking Away was filmed there.
Last Spring, took my stoker (whom I met in B-ton that same year) and our tandem down for the Bloomington Bicycle Club's Breaking Away Tour - we rode by several places featured in the film.
This is where Dave Stoller and his family lived:

I still haven't seen it... and I just bought this bike. It's supposed to be an homage to the bike in the movie I guess.

cute, The Shoe was a PF Flyer, We do have American Flyer Bicycles but the movie Had Kevin Costner and Rae Dawn Chong and was suposed to be a serious family drama movie with cycling and a vehicle for the plot. Breaking Away was a coming of age movie with a bicycle as the vehicle. Quicksilver was a social redemption movie with Kevin Bacon. Big money guy goes into the dumps, cycles to make a living, redeems himself and goes back into Wall Street.

Don't compare any of them to "Premium Rush" I just suffered thru. The best part was watching the one messenger guy riding a carbon Parlee with Enve carbon componets and Enve $3000 carbon 46 rims racing thru traffic without a care on delivery. It was pure fantasy as I never seen any bike messengers like that when living in Philly.

Part of the movies was shot in the Colorado National Monument when they had the Hell of the West/Tour of the Moon race scenes. I only watched the movie to see the local shots.
