Trek Marin 7 crank set upgrade

Hi so I can hear clicking noises and feel tension on the left pedal when I apply pressure, my last bike this happened to the pedal fell off so I've found the exact replacement (Shimano Acera FC-M371) I want to replace the bottom bracket, the crank set states it comes with a square taper fitment but havnt a clue what this means, any ideas on a bottom bracket or the correct size, this is why I just end up buying a new bike but I don't really want to this time, any help would be great thanks

Sorry.... I'm being a butt.

This is sub-forum is about how you fit on your bike. Not about maintenance or fixing it.

You really should be in the Bicycle Mechanics sub-forum

Don’t understand what you mean when you say ”feel tension on the left pedal”.
Pedals falling off is unusual. They usually work themselves tighter.
Crank arms falling off - particularly left - is more common.
The m371 is available in different tooth counts.
Unless you know how to check your chain for length, make sure you get the same.
To swap a square-taper crankset in good order you need a crank puller.
And to mount one - If you’re new to bike mechanics - I’d recommend the use of a torque wrench. Insufficient torque at installation can kill a square taper crank real quick.
Much as I like to encourage people to DIY, I think you could merit from taking the bike to a shop. You’d get a safer diagnose on what’s actually wrong and what to do about it.

Hi I took it to the shop to get looked at, the guy said he took the crack off and bootom bracket and cleaned it all, said it looked good but I rode away and withing 15 mins the clicking was back, its on both sides now and sounds like a car indicator, the tension I am talking about vibrates my foot like it creaks when I pedal

Well your question doesn't seem to be related to the discussion intended for this sub-forum, which is stated near the top....
