Congratulations to Mercedes!, they found the pace when it counted. Congrats to Hamilton for his 75th win at F1's 1000th race, and a (likely) disappointed Bottas for 2nd. Vettel lands on the podium with 3rd.

The Lap times in qualifying were within fractions of a second of each other for several rows of the start grid..

Downforce sucks , literally..

First practice at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was cancelled after George Russell's Williams was damaged on a loose manhole cover.

Back in the early 90's the Trans Am Series ran in the Des Moines Grand Prix. The same thing happened here.

No doubt. How many SC/VSC's will there be tomorrow, could have a big impact on race strategy.

Mercedes had the pace, finishes 1-2.

Congrats to Bottas!
Bottas
Hamilton
Vettel

The top three finished as they started. A good race, passing throughout the field and, no one stuffed their car into a wall.

LeClerc put on fresh soft tires to nail down one fastest lap to get those points for that..

[1:43.009] so had 11 points just 1 less than Verstappen's 12 for finishing ahead of him ..

Curious why Renault engined Red Bull does so much better
than Honda Engined Toro Rosso, basically another red bull team,

or Renault engined Renault (the ex Lotus team)?

Qual times are not that far apart. but the other 2 teams
hardly get any points .. so far 6 for 1, 12 for the other .. vs 87..

Oh I might know why...

Could be that I watched R5s and their F1 cars just win and too many Hondas blowing up in bad places.

Red Bull & Torro Rosso are both powered by Honda. Last season the teams were split between Honda & Renault.

Zandvoort confirmed for the next 3 years

I believe this is great news. Not for nationalistic reasons, I don't care much about which side of the border a circuit is and I'm more of a television fan and don't care much for Verstappen. It's competitor was the TT circuit of Assen and that's only a 1.5 hour bike ride away for me.

I love it because it's a great track, very difficult with it's sweeping corners, inclines and canter. It's not good for overtaking but I believe overtaking should be hard, track position should count and with DRS it will still be a challenge. It will probably also favour the most talented drivers over the ones with more acquired skills and beeing in the Netherlands there's always a chance of rain.

I also love it because it's going to be a logistical nightmare to get all the fans and professionals in. You can see on the picture it's as tightly packed as the current Mercedes power unit, there's not just going to be a highway or an extra road constructed, and there's not many going there now and they have difficulty handling the beach visitors already. It's going to be a logistical dream if the Dutch fans come by bike, their own or the National Railways bike share program if they take the train to Haarlem. It's an excellent opportunity to show the world what can be done when peace between bikes and cars has broken out.
