80's Schwinn Paramount

A friend kept asking me about this bike. It was for sale at the Spokesman swap for $700 and then sat on craigslist list for a few weeks. As the price dropped, he called more. I finally told him I was going to buy it and he broke out his wallet. He's bringing it by later and I'll take a few pictures.

OK, I'm lost.
You bought it and your friend broke out his wallet.

Can he be my friend?

It sounds like the friend needed the threat of competition to bring himself to a decision. Pretty bike!

He bought it, I'm going to go through it for him. Just going to document it here. Has a pearl yellow paint that just didn't show up well in the ad.

Stone's Cyclery in Alameda has had a Waterford frame in what I think is the same color sitting in its rack for some time (or maybe they've sold it by now). If so, it's a knockout color.

He brought it by. Probably not a Waterford build and could be a faux Paramount. Shimano dropouts. Paramount Stronglight headset.

I'm not seeing any serial numbers and there are zip tie Mark's in the paint, probably from shipping. Still a nice looking bike. Trying to get a useable brake hood on the DA levers.

CT,
While I am not a Waterford expert I remember reading somewhere that some had Shimano groups which might lead me to believe that they may have used Shimano drops too...is this the only reason to think it's not a W.P.
The Waterford experts will chime in.
Very nice looking bike.
Best, Ben

My 84 touring has longer dropouts so I can't compare those but the seat lug and the bottom bracket shell look like the ones on mine. Also, the chain stay stop for the rear derailleur cable housing looks the same. Is there a serial number stamped into the bottom bracket shell?

I recall reading somewhere that Waterford began using Shimano dropouts in the late 80's so I think your ok.

Good eyes, thanks. Yes, to the left is a W and then a 6. From what I can make of the other it's M86033. He wants to look for a new stem so it didn't get taped. Found some old dia-compe hoods that fit pretty nice. The old ones were gummies bears.
