I picked myself up, straightened my handlebar and saddle and rode away. The owner offered me a glass of water!? A couple of miles down the road I stopped and inspected the frame. A huge sigh of relief that there were no bulges on the downtube or fork. My Brooks swallow did get a scuff on the corner. I'm lucky I didn't break my collarbone or something.

Its sad to announce Los Angeles is back to restrictions. Outdoor dining and new stay at home order. Its back to riding solo since the group i sometimes ride with tend not to wear their masks when gathering.

Snowy wet day so decided to spend some time putting some nicer wider slightly wider bars and different slightly lower longer stem on the Schwinn Mesa GSX. To see how I like it and took a short ride only a couple of mile to the local park and back.

Pretty cool day today. In yesterday's paper there was an article about the old railroad tunnel through the Blue Ridge finally opening. This was a tunnel built in the mid 1800's, apparently at the time one of the longest in the country. It has long been abandoned and for years a group has been working on turning it into a walking path. I decided to check it out. Started outside the town of Crozet and rode up one of my regular routes up Afton Mountain. In the little community of Afton, took the turn off to the tunnel. A few weeks ago I posted a pic from the old train depot in Afton. Now there's a walking trail to the tunnel. Tunnel itself is a little under a mile long. Other end of the trail pops out in Augusta County, just on the other side of the Blue Ridge Parkway. My original plan was to ride the tunnel, turn around and go home, but on a whim, I continued uphill to Skyline Drive and rode that to Jarman Gap. This is a very steep descent (with freshly laid gravel, ugh!) back down to near my starting point. Since I hadn't planned on spending any time above 2000 feet, I got pretty chilly, so the cold, the extra climbing, and the challenging descent (my Garmin read out -28% at one point, which I doubt, but still pretty dang steep) took a lot out of me and I was one tired puppy. OTOH, I'm really pleased to find a not too onerous, low traffic route onto the Parkway/Skyline.

Thanks. It's a small natural gas power plant across the street from my apartment complex. It's behind a cannery/bottling facility, and next to a golf course. Kind of a weird mixed-use area.

Too wet yesterday. I'm willing to ride if it's wet out, but generally not if it's raining at the start. So I set up the CycleOps in the garage and plopped my Dawes on it. *ugh* Cue the boredom music...
This morning I looked out and saw damp roads but no dripping. I hopped on the Schwinn three-speed and toodled around town for 45 minutes or so until it started dripping again. Not much of a ride, but it was better than the CycleOps!

Didn't go quite that far. I did listen to NPR as a distraction though.

I'm still at the halfway point of my 40 mile ride. Came to visit my uncle and finally show him his '72 Raleigh Pro that I got rolling again last spring! Checking out some of the toys in his shop right now...

Super light traffic this morning. I felt like I could run down the middle of the road, no problem. And then I did see a guy doing exactly that. No idea why. Joggers are strange.
