New Bike Day! ‘74 Raleigh International Content
Hello!!
A while back I posted a “what’s next” thread. I have and love a few Treks, Canny’s, Miayatas, and I wanted something a little different.
I found it,
I’d to figure out how to “drag“ it home without, like, ya know, actually dragging it home...
My face mask tube was actually really handy on the way back. It cut the dust, and since it captures my breath, it might slow dehydration? A little?
In the flowers, the caboose is still hanging on...

I stopped for cookies here...
Close up of my not so tidy bungee job. I used an empty water bottle as a frame bumper. Kept it away from the wheels and the derailleur.

Little rough around the edges, but so am I.
The this chromes a bit nicer.
I strapped a spare rear wheel to my bike, and after a round trip of 45 miles, (that’s a big day for me!) I came home with my prize.
I know there is a lug quality thread with serial numbers but I wanted to give this bike its own. I can say it’s a WD40 run, and the brazing is nice enough except for the seat cluster to top tube. Not enough braze and you can see a little gaposa in the lug. I’ll post that soon. I’m not worried about strength, it’s held together for 46 years, so ya know... strong paint! Speaking of, it all stayed on despite my best efforts at rubbing off with my bungee bottle set up.
I thrilled to get a second 70’s bike into the tent. I’m stoked to have finally (FINALLY) added a chromed lugs and socks bike to the herd. Plus I dig that all my bikes were made by their own companies, not one rebadge in the bunch.
Don’t have any build plan yet, so feel free to suggest and post your ideas. I’ll be over here doing my best to use up a end of a can of nevr-dull that’s likely older than this frame!

nope! But the seller was a super cool guy, we had a good talk at a socially respectful distance. We’re both believers in full disclosure of frame flaws, etc. He has an account on here but rarely posts. I didn’t ask his handle, but he knows mine :-)

There is definitely something about shiny chromed Nervex head lugs that just feels so extravagant and wonderful!
I got my '74 International 20 years ago and still just stare at it. Took it out for a ride this morning, and got surprised by some dark clouds and lightning approaching from the north. Didn't get wet, or struck by lightning, fortunately!

I’ll have to remember this towing method, especially the water bottle spacer. I’m impressed that you were able to go so far to retrieve it. I’m always slow to replace a car whenever they give up the ghost and will usually go car less for months or sometimes years at a time. This method may come in handy. As for the bike, congratulations! I’ve got a 75 International in copper color just like yours and it’s one of my favorites. I’m curious as to how the chrome on the fork socks will turn out, hopefully all goes well with that. The rest of the bike will certainly come out nicely. That’s a beautiful find and I know you’ll enjoy it.

There is a small dent in the top tube, looks like a handlebar swung around. It’s shown in pic three, and if I hadn’t grabbed the International, I wouldn’t have hesitated snagging this Gran Sport

That's dedication to an avocation! Why lash the new frame to the drive side rather than NDS?
I have a '74 Raleigh that I believe to be an International frame in my "to build" stash, but it's been overpainted white, and appears to have been red at some point -- no sign of metallic paint yet, but I haven't stripped it. I'd be interested to see more about your build. In the stash is also a '72 Competition with the Nervex lugs and longer chain stays, probably also more relaxed frame angles.
I live about 25-30 blocks south of your neighborhood, and figure you must have been traveling north to make countryside -- Croton Aqueduct trail? Or Jersey via GWB?

Well you had me fooled on location, that's for sure -- your info says Hamilton Heights, but you're in Ann Arbor, which is another place I know pretty well from living there for a few years, having relatives in the area from Brighton to Lake St. Clair, including A2, and visiting there in better times. Well, I'm about 650 miles to the east now. I buy a lot of stuff from Tree Fort Bikes in Ypsi. Ann Arbor is a great place to cycle, or was in the late 70s. Doesn't look much different to me now.
