Now that's a good idea. I too keep track of the mileage on my tyres. I could do something like this. Thanks for the suggestion. Cheers.

I used to do it a lot in the past, it was fun to constantly test new tires... I never get rid of good tires but keep them in my parts bin and eventually end up using them in the future.

When I bought my Miyata 710 out in AZ while visiting my mother out there, it needed tires. The only thing I could find out there at any LBS were heavy Vittoria Randonneurs - at almost $45/ea! Gatorskins were $75ea. I put the Randonneurs on and rode the bike maybe 50 miles on the remainder of that visit.

On my next visit, I had packed in my luggage two sets of Vittoria Rubino Pro Tech III - one set in 25mm, and another in 28mm - bought online on sale for $28ea! - as well as new lighter tubes. So the 50-mile Randonneurs came off, and the 28mm Rubinos went on. Night and day difference in ride - and less than half the weight! The nearly-new Randonneurs went to a local co-op.

Are these the perfectly good tires you speak of?

Negative. Those are the older tyres on my bike that are now going to be replaced!
(That tyre BTW, the one with the wet spots, is a Pirelli Cinturato Velo)

Heck yes. I have replaced many tires before their time to try something that might be better. More often on mountain bikes, though.

Anyone else have this kind of conundrum? Cheers.
Yes...kind of I've three wheelsets all with different tyres and cassettes for different ride types...I haven't ridden on the Continental GP5000's yet...I'll get round to it at some point...

I’m a geek at whatever I do so I say yes, swap them out. You don’t have to throw away the other tires.

just do it and sell your old ones. I had 23c with less than 500 miles but wanted to upgrade to 28c when my new bike arrived. So I purchased the 28c and slapped them on without any regrets. I just sold the 23c close to what I paid for them. Used tire market is in demand for some reason.

Heck, I’ve changed out a perfectly good bike to try a new one.
