Holes in my gp 4000s

I bought and installed this new pair of Continental Grand Prix 4000 tires end of last year. I rode them a couple miles then, not at all this summer. I put air in them today and noticed these perfectly round holes in each tire. They're holding air so it's not a flat but the hole is pretty deep considering a tire is not all that thick to begin with. I'll have to take them apart to see if I'm looking at the inner tubes in the holes or the tire itself. Has anyone seen this before? There's two holes in each tire. I bought them off ebay last year. Could they be seconds?

Look at the sidewall at each "hole" and you will find "TWI" with a small arrow. I'd be more worried when you can't see the holes anymore.

You're correct. The twi is there. I did some research on it and see now that it's on Continental tires. Learn something new everyday. Thanks for all the help.

My GP4000s never last that long for the wear indicators to disappear. They start getting flats before that or something else happens and I toss them. It just isn't worth the aggravation when they get worn. I tossed one last week and replaced it with a GP5000 in 700x25, when I always used 700x23. It is much more comfortable.

\Pretty much my experience with most tires urban commuting. Cuts and gashes retire them before wear.

The tires mentioned are 700x23 that are on my 87 Ironman. I just ordered a set of 700x25 Vittoria Corsa G 2.0 for my 88 Ironman. I'm curious to see the difference between the two, basically same bikes.

I picked up this tread wear indicator on my way home today... this is the reading for end of useful life.
