Shimano Hub Removal Tool -Early?
I have a 80-81ish Motobecane Grand Record. It has Shimano components. What hub removal tool will work? I read about an "early" Shimano. Would this be considered "early"? It has 9 splines and is about 1 1/4" (32mm) across. I'll provide any other pertinent info that I can.

Do you have a LBS open near you? If you're doing a one time freewheel removal and if the freewheel is the 333 version (whose tool is no longer available other then used , maybe on EBay) Then I question the value of buying it. If your LBS has the tool the job should cost only a few $ if you brought in only the wheel.

Well that's a "duh"! No, no new spokes. Thank you!!
EDIT: For that matter, maybe I'll be able to do one spoke at a time, to make it easier to keep track. But, I'm reading Sheldon Brown's article on wheel building, very helpful.

you need another identical rim then, if the spoke seat in the rim * is different diameter, you cannot re use same length of spokes.

I'm still not sure what you are asking, but you have enough posts to post a picture which would be HELPFUL.

JohnThompson I was thinking the same thing. Some Moto's came with a Uniglide cassette hub body and a 5 or 6 speed cogset which was held on by the last (14T) sprocket. In which case the OP would need 2 chain tools to hold the cassette sprockets.
