Cambio Rino purchase

Picked this beauty up today. I was pretty excited to have it turn out to be in such good condition as I had my b-in-law pick it up for me in Ottawa. I bought it having only seen photos. I gave it a superficial cleaning and took it for a little spin. Everything is working well but the rear D cage will have to be convinced into a less bent attitude. It is a little bigger than advertised, which is a good thing because advertised was likely too small. So BOOM!. Eclectic build: mostly Dura-Ace Ax with Rino shifters and headset, Superbe Pro Rear D and calipers and some sort of Campy front D and I think seat post is also Campy but not sure. Wheels are tubular Mavic GP4 with Dura-ace hubs. The tubing seems to be Columbus SL (or SP) but decal just says rinforzati. Any idea where to look for serial number and how to determine if this an Italian built example of a Gardin build? Once again all info about Cambio Rinos appreciated. randyjawa or T-Mar my knowledgeable fellow Canucks? Great day!

Dannyboy21,
I can't help you with more information on CR but will say that the lug-work/workmanship is very nice....
You have a nice score there .

HAWT.

From the pics, I can't judge the clearance in the back, but you could run a much larger tire on front if you wanna.

(I'm always thinking of gravel grinding capabilities when buying a new bike.)

Unusual bike, very cool!

Love that story about the wrong-but-right frame fit!

Yes. When I made the purchase I was thinking this might possibly be a restore and flip bike; it was a good deal in the scorching current market. Turns out the seatube is 59cm and top tube looks to be 57.5cm, but was advertised as a 56cm. I took a chance because in the photos the head tube seemed a little long for a racing bike on a 56cm frame and I guessed correctly. Being a 6 footer with longer legs, its a pretty good fit. So, it turns into a welcome addition to the collection.

Lascauxcaveman having a look at it, I am guessing 28mm might be the most that will fit on back end. I do have 28mm Vlaanderens and 33mm Grifos I can try out. I do live near many gravel roads so I do ride my Salsa Wardbird on them quite often. Maybe I will build a C&V gravel rig set up.

Perhaps @T-Mar can help out. The heart-like cutouts are very similar to my mid 80's Gardin so there is that. As is the geometry

Thanks clubman . I had the same thought; as well randyjawa seems to have owned both CRs and Gardins. To be honest I don't know which I want it to be. Italian made is great, but to own another well made Canadian bike is also cool. According to Randy, in another thread, I have to measure my stays of it is a Canadian bike.

The subject bicycle is an early 1980s Cambio Rino Crono. The tubeset is Columbus SL ( I can see the 27.2 stamped on the post). OEM examples typically turn up with Cambio Rino Crono components and Modolo Speedy brakesets. I believe the subject bicycle was only assembled in Canada. So, depending on your viewpoint, you can consider it Canadian and/or Italian. Enjoy your new acquisition.

Very nice bike Dannyboy21 , I had a Cambio Rino Excel crankset in the early 1980's, it was a beautiful crank with drilled black chainrings. They offered some very nice components and wish I had bought their derailleurs. I still have the catalog, will try to scan and upload it to the forum in the next couple of weeks

Dannyboy21 The R on the shift levelers look more like a Rossin font.
Post is a single bolt Super Record.
FD might be C Record or Victory. Check Velobase.
AND a pump umbrella to boot! Just need a Silca pump to go with it.
Congrats on a nice find!

It does look like it but Joe used the R in a square for the line of Rino components, even when they were rebranded as Excel. Here's a Gardin crankset with the same R.

+1, those are Cambio Rino shift levers on the subject bicycle, specifically the Forate model. which was often paired with the Crono derailleurs.

The crankset in post #13 is the Excel version of the Cambino Rino Corsa, the latter being OEM spec for the subject bicycle. Excel also marketed a version of the Cambio Rino Aereo aerodynamic crankset.

I checked online photos and the pivot point looks like Victory. What makes you say seat post is Super Record? Not questioning your saying it is. I just want to learn how to identify on my own.

Believe me, I don't know much. I have one of these that came on my Bianchi I bought a couple years ago. After some research, I found it was Selle San Marco, but possibly actually made by 3ttt.
