Thanks! I thought all the black really
makes the champagne pop. Didn’t really want to put any other colors on to diminish that. Cable housing is grey.

I bought the Walnut brand. I have no skills in stitching, but it should be fine.

Friend of mine who hasn't ridden a bike in years picked up a ('72 or '73, haven't checked the serial # yet) Schwinn World Voyageur at a flea market for $60. I'm not a Schwinn guy but I gotta say, it's a damn impressive bike. The tires are completely blown out but besides that everything is in great shape. All original except the saddle and RD. Shifts like a dream. Complete with Schwinn-approved dynamo lights and a Soubitez bottle dynamo.

Gonna give it a good wash-n-wax for him as it's acquired some barn dust and patina over the years, regrease some of the bearings, new cables, bar tape, and tires/tubes/rim tape. That's really all it needs. He'll be cruisin' around in style.

Yes this picture indicates a Record crank but there is a Chorus labeled one too.
Anyway the BB had to be swapped as well. The chain line was a bit different encouraging an adjustment of the FD.
On a ride yesterday there was an periodic rubbing sound. At first the suspect was the FD adjustment. Another was made with no difference. Then the thought that the chainring might be rubbing on the chain stay. Inspections showed good clearance. I stayed in the big ring for the ride until I was home.

Upon final inspection, the problem was discovered. The FD was too low on the braze on mount. The outer cage would barely touch the outer ring. Final adjustment fixed the problem.

I posted this on the All Things FUJI thread, and this has become my daily ride. Here's my 1986 Fuji Opus III that I purchased more than a year ago from a fellow forums member. I hadn't time until a month ago to clear coat the frame and fork to protect the decals. But I'm glad I did and the faded colors of the decals started to brighten following application of the clear coat finish. I opted with MTB handlebars instead of dropouts because it's NYC and who bikes around the street in dropouts anyway? Suntour Superbe Pro components are original to the bike except for the headset (because the Ishiwata headsets weren't chromed properly and became pitted), the wheels, pedals and handlebars and seat.

This is my latest project. I have realized that the paint is probably the most important thing I look for in a project these days. There are a hundred bikes at the Bike Exchange at any one time waiting to be fixed. If I take one with good paint it makes the restoration much easier and quicker. They all get stripped and cleaned. With good paint all I have to do is rub it out with white polishing compound, try to touch up any chips, and clear coat. Then it is a matter of cleaning and re installing the shiny bits and often swapping in some newer bling from our stash to make the bike pop.

On this build I swapped out the black steel crank and rings for a nice Deore. The Rear derailleur got an up grade, and I put a different stem and new bars on that had a 4" rise. Some red brake cables and bottle holder plus some red stripe 32 x 700 tires tires and it looked pretty good. Finally , I ditched the six speed freewheel for a 7 speed and added a trigger shifter and she was done . Did all that in about 12 man hours.

In the shop now is a steel frame Basso. I just finished stripping , cleaning, and touching up the frame . tThis bike had a mishmash of parts on it . I probably won't use any of them excep the seat post. It has a tri tubi frame so isn't top of the line, Still the 58 cm frame only weighs 4.75 lbs (fork 1.75), which ain't bad. I am going to try to do it in as much Shimano 600 as I have. I have some tri color brakes and at least 3 different rear ders , also a couple cranks . Don't know about levers . I will dig around the shop to see if we have any tricolor hubs. Anyway it should look o/k when finished. The decals are pretty torn up in the pictures. I have siince painted over the bad spots and will clear coat everything before assembly.

so far i took apart the headset, changed the seat, tires (one of the old tires needed to be snipped off so old and hard), chain, blew some air thru the cables and cleaned the whole bike it was super grimey, also I installed new grabon grips (not pictured)
I think the original chain had 113 links but now the new one has 114 and the issue is that it sometimes slips on the freewheel when changing gears but it could be due to the weird freewheel teeth which have like an indent in them and I had to put 2 master links in it since I made it 112 first which was too tight. The front derailleur usually doesn't shift into the 36 tooth gear, I'm sure its filled with gunk but the screw is on so tight I'm scared to break it and have been pushing it to shift with my foot.

Completely botched one side of the drop bar "Windsor" logo while removing the stock stem and had a helluva time mounting its replacement. I thought a Nitto Young would slip right on a 26mm bar sleeve. Not so. Did a lot of filing. Wore me out. After finishing, I ate four tacos, had a beer, and passed out for two hours on the couch.

Since March I have been building and flipping bikes like never before ( 23 sold ) and about half were cheap beach cruisers, after working on two early 80's Murray Cruisers that in the end the frames were built wrong and I junked them. I had enough parts from those two bikes that I built up a cool Beach Cruiser, a 1958 JC Higgins Flightliner frame I had laying around. I am also just about finished building a 93 Jamis Boca Hybrid that was trash picked by a friend who got it for me. What I really like about this Jamis is that a 40mm tire fits on it where all the other Hybrids I've built over the years max out at 32mm tires.

Overhauled these replacement MKS pedals for my Windsor project and spray painted the dust caps gold.



Next up are the original Shimano 600s, a model I've never before rebuilt. Fortunately, the delicate dustcaps were removed without any damage.

Any idea where to source similar grips? I think they were foam or rubber originally. The grips are starting to crack in areas.

also needs new cable housing. But most of the stuff out there now seems to have a smaller OD than the originals.

14 speed - Think its from 85?? Got it from a buddy that had it sitting in his garage since the late 80's I think is super cool looking! the seat could be off a child's bike... On to the next project!
