Bianchi junior celeste

I built up a couple of bikes for my oldest this year. This was one I just didn't want to do because of all the mods to make it work.
Originally came with some 24 inch tubular and seized up old huret derailleurs and a cottered cranks. Stripped, polished and modified for 26inch mtb wheels. Set up 1*8 with 600 series parts and a mtb crankset. It works surprisingly well.

And his other bikes

WOW!

Very nice project and work.

A person would have to go a country mile to find a junior road bike so excellently kitted.

Looks like it began one of the Chiorda built examples.

Frame constructed of Agrati bits:

bulge-formed head is "EXPORT" series

fork crown is item nr. 001.8518

bottom bracket shell is item nr. 022.8507

fork ends item nr. 000.8010

dropouts item nr. 000.8002

appears both bridges plate style

did you create w/b mounts with rivnuts?

---

beautiful job!

I'd like to claim I knew what I was doing.. Fortunately my ignorance allows for mods that shouldn't be. That and I have admired, and learned, from many on this forum. C&V is my favourite despite owning new fandagled plastic bikes with electronic.
The Bianchi junior was purchased for $65 as a somewhat complete bike years ago from an auction so I wasn't too worried about fooling around with it. The parts were from a gardin that was retrofitted with campy.. The wheels/tires were purchase used. The crank is a cheap Chinese knockoff with an Italian ultegra bb. It's a Sunday cruiser for when both me and my son ride vintage... 😉

curious what is the arm length of the chainset you employed?

does your son find it comfortable?

recall the production junior road machines of the nineteen seventies era as coming through with cottered steel chainsets of 150 or 152mm.

when alloy cotterless chainset producers offer a juvenile model it is most commonly 160mm

thank you again for sharing this fine project!

luv seeing the tyre clearance of those 26"-ers

muguards not an option

is it necessary to deflate the rear tyre for putting wheel in and out of frame?

My son is about 5 feet tall.. The arm length is 170mm which is a bit long.. The wheels are 26 as opposed to the 24 it came with.. I have some Shimano 165 I might swap out for but I wanted a 1xchainring.
