Opinions on this Merckx 7/11

Hello,
This bike is available for sale locally. The owner doesn't know much about it. Pictures show light surface rust on all the chrome. I'd like to know:
1. What will the ride be like? (I'm 5'10", 160 lbs, and I like to ride hills, generally 15 - 35 miles).
2. Any guesses on the date of manufacture? Owner says it's an 8-speed. I'd probably work on making the components match the era.
3. It probably doesn't matter, but what is a likely weight? It's a 54 cm, so 21 lbs?
Thanks

No expert here but from where I'm sitting, you should hurry.

These are very iconic, ride great and won't last long if well priced at all, like I said, hurry.

If you don't buy it, I will. Let's see. Who do I know in that area?

At your size, that bike is one or two sizes too small. I’m your height and ride a Merckx 57.
Serial number will allow you to get very close on date of manufacture.
It’s a Corsa Extra, so SLX tubing.
These are excellent bikes, that’s an iconic paint scheme, plus it comes with the flat fork crown and correcr chrome plating.
Last one I sold, which had DA and was pretty much perfect, went for around $1500.

That's a fine bike IMO, if the price is right I'd buy it immediatly. Most components look period correct, except stem and saddle, maybe brakes. Weight is probably 21-23 lbs as shown. 54 might be a bit on the small side for you.

Thanks guys. I tend to like smaller sizes, at least lately. It's true, I may be closer to 56cm. Legs are about 33".
There are tons of n+1 options, so I want to be sure beforehand.

First version Campagnolo Ergopower shifters of "one year design" - late 1991 for teams and others in the right position and 1992 for the rest of us. The so called "hockeystick" shifter because of the lump of metal in the end of the brake lever.

Brakes of a much earlier era and a Chorus front derailleur. Stem, seatpost and saddle has nothing to do with this bike...
