Chainring question
I am new to component replacement, but know enough to know how to do it haha. My large chainring needs replacing, and it's a 50t from a shimano 105 5600 groupset. I'm fairly certain it's a 130mm BCD (5-bolt config). What I need to find out (knowing I can't take it to a bike shop for a part) is if it's possible to fit a 46t or 48t chainring, and if so, recommendations on where to look would be great! Thanks for any help or info!

50t usually have 110bcd... Anyway just confirm whether your cranks are 110 or 130bcd then can find replacement rings that fit (same bcd as previous, rated for same number of speeds 9-11). I run 46/34 on my gravel bike and like the setup.

That is sad your local shop is closed. Bike shops are essential and you should be fighting for them to stay open as they are essential. Where I work is still open and serving and we are quite busy,
I believe the FC-5600 is 130bcd and the research I did backs that up. Generally the smallest chainring you can run on a 130bcd crank is 38t. You might find something smaller but that will be super tough as generally smaller would interfere with the teeth. You could go lower on your larger chainring but going too small and you will be doing basically a half step gearing which makes more sense for a time trial application than average road riding. A compact crank makes more sense and will give you the ability to smaller chainrings which will help out.

The best deals I found on chain rings are made by FSA & Vuelta

Shimano FC-5600/FC-5700 double cranks that came 53/39 or 52/39 or the triples having 50/39/30 chainrings have 130 mm large chainring bolt circles. The 50/34 compact double cranks have a 110 mm bolt circle.
