Haanjo Comp or Trail?
I am buying my first gravel bike. I can get a great deal on a new 2017 Diamondback Haanjo Comp Carbon for $1,750. It has Shimano 105 for the drivetrain and TRP Spyre brakes. Or for $450 more, I can get the Trail Carbon with a Shimano Ultegra components and Shimano BR-RS685 brakes Oh, it's half pound lighter too.
Other than that, they are identical. I'm thinking that I'll ride the Comp and then upgrade the components when they wear out but wanted to get some outside thoughts on this. Should I pop for the Trail? Or is there a comparable bike out there (carbon, Ultregra, etc) for $2,100 from a different company that I should consider?
Thanks for the help...

To be honest I'd probably just save money and grab the Haanjo Trail aluminum for $1400. Maybe spend the money you saved on a nice wheel set or cycling trip somewhere.

Competitive still has the Shimano hydro upgrade kit (RS505 levers and I forget which calipers) for less than $250. I bought that and dumped off the 105 levers/TRP calipers for $100 - great upgrade for only $150 if you go the Comp route.

I have the 6800 on my tribike, I rode a friends 5800 RB, shifted the same to me. I figure 5800 is fine for this bike.

Thanks for the advice to all. I think the general recommendation is to buy the Comp and then upgrade as I find good deals. Donjo, it's interesting that 365 Cycles is selling the Comp Carbon at $1650 on their website. They are selling the same bike (I think-- haven't checked the specs completely) for $2,200 on Amazon. It does pay to shop around.
Another alternative I'm considering is the GT Grade Ultegra bike on Competitive Cycles for about the same price as the Trail Carbon. It's a very nice bike and has awesome reviews too.
Thanks again...

Since the Haanjo Trail and Carbon are so close in price - any thoughts on which one might be the more versatile package? Thinking paved commuting as well gravel trails though no hardcore singletrack/technical...

Haanjo Aluminum Trail vs Carbon what? The EXP, Comp, Trail? I bought the Carbon Comp model (see above post) for the same basic reasons you listed. If I want to do some more soft soil trail riding here in FL (I sure will!) I'll likely have to get some 650b and 2" tires.
