Nice thing about the BB386Evo system....it'll work with just about any BB shell out there.

I put the SL-K version in my Groading Bike, and as advertised internal Di2 wiring and BSA shell gets along fine.

This is great to hear and something many fail to take into account when discussing wide vs narrow ratios, climbing gears, etc.

The body is an amazingly adaptable system and what seemed impossible at the start can become second nature with patience and time.

I still think I'd like a decent 30/46 front double, all else being equal. I have nearly no use for 50x11, 12, or 13. My SRAM 32/48 has held up ok, but I'd have gone lower if the option was available.

It is a shame that one still needs to consider a 1x or mountain triple to get that sort of range (or a $600 Sugino).

Shimano's "Trekking" FCM-591 (9-speed) and FC-551(10-speed) cranks are triples with 48/36/26 chainrings and are $110 or less from Bike Discount in Germany. Here is one link:

https://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/...mm-black-27161

They are Hollowtech II cranks using a standasrd HTII English threaded bottom bracket but adapters to fit a BB386Evo shell should be available.

Game on folks, it looks like FSA has 30/46 and 32/48 chainring options across their range now: https://shop.fullspeedahead.com/en/t...86evo-crankset

The next build is going to have an energy 30/46, I can feel it.

Nice thing about the BB386EVO cranks...they weigh a bunch less than the Sugino OX901D. For how heavy the Sugino ends up being, its price is pretty loco for an alloy crank.

The Energy crank is kind of a strange critter pricing wise...$100USD more gets you a crank 1/3 of a pound lighter. Also the SL-K has a protector on the arms from the factory so you don't have to worry about your shoe wearing into the paint on the arm.

If you're at all interested in cross-compatibility 4700 is by far the worst group.
I don't see why you feel the Tiagra 4700 is so bad compatibility wise. It has full compatibility with Ultegra 6800 derailleurs and brakes (and everything else except cassettes). Ditto for for 105 5800. If you have Ultegra 6800 and want to use a larger cassette the RD-4700-GS will work for you (2 teeth larger than 6800-GS).

Tiagra 4700 is compatible with all existing 10-speed cassettes. The triple front(left) shifter is compatible with previous generation triple front derailleurs (the triple uses the older lesser front cable pull).

All this is no more complicated than other cross-compatibility across other Shimano groupos.
