Velodrome racing?

As. Kid in 1954 i went to the China Creek Velodrome several times, by bike and even rode my bike on the track. But I wasn't able to climb very high up on the wooden track. They held the 1954 British Empire Games velodrone racing there. It is the most exciting racing I have ever seen. Question? Is there still Velodrone racing taking place? And if so where?

Track racing it would be commonly referred to now. Major Taylor Velodrome in Indianapolis is going strong since it was built in the 1980's.

Trexlertown has a velodrome in Pennsylvania

There is a velodrome in San Dieog, CA

Both of the above are outside, so they are not wood.

Track racing is still an Olympic event.

There is a beautiful new indoor velodrome just outside Oakville Ontario that was built for the Pan Am games. There is an outdoor velodrome in Bromont Quebec which was originally used for the 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta. There are not very many other velodromes in Canada. One of the most interesting ones I ever saw was in Montreal set up for the 1974 World championships. The Velodrome for the 1976 Olympics wasn't yet finished so they set up the track inside the football stadium of the Universite de Montreal, it filled the whole football field, a pretty impressive sight on the much larger Canadian field. The Montreal velodrome was a 333 meter track. The public was allowed in to watch the athletes practicing during the week preceding the actual competition. The day that I went with a friend we were watching the riders on the track and one rider was up at the top of the banking when he had a blowout and fell down to the bottom,a very nasty sight.

From "China Creek Velodrome", I'm going to guess that you're somewhere around Vancouver, BC. It appears it was replaced by the Burnaby Velodrome:

Thanks Jeff, Ben and everyone else for the info. I never see any of this racing on TV, maybe I just don't get the right channel.

We have a velodrome here in Colorado Springs, but then we have an Olympic training center.

There is a newer velodrome in Cleveland, Ohio too:

Cleveland Velodrome - Ohio?s Only Velodrome Complex

Never been there, but from the street it appears to be pretty large (in my noob opinion).

There was talk of putting one in the old Memorial Coliseum but nothing ever came of it. Portland real estate being what it is, I doubt an indoor velodrome would ever get built here. It would be cool, though.

the old dog track parcel was eyed as a Casino Site. Taking a cue from Japan , keirin with betting windows would be a paying feature ..
