Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Lots of float too to make it easier on the knees....probably one of the better parts I've bought.

Actually, the float is built into the red cleats, not the pedals. I use the black cleats that have no float. But, yes, those pedals are fantastic and I've got several of them that are still in great condition after tens of thousands of miles.

Yeah, I knew the red vs black cleats caused the float variances. It just seems even with the red cleats, they offer more float than most other modern pedals with 3 variations of cleats. I've never had any tricky situations either where it felt I was going to become unclipped or had difficulty unclipping (my cleats are not exactly clean either). I was just shocked pulling those pedals apart and seeing how over-engineered they are....so many sets of loose bearings.

Yeah, you definitely gain a bit of weight with the DA7401 and they don't win any prizes for looks, but I could see them outlasting a nuclear blast.

What's funny is I'll be stopped filling up my water on a trail and someone will notice the pedals since they do stand out (gray and chunky looking).....I get the "Man, I should have kept mine...those things were 100% reliable/bulletproof."

Changing a few things soon (tires, crank, seatpost, and stem.) Already changed out the bars to an FSA compact that isn't shown.
Still not sure why State chose a disc hub to pair with a frame that cant use discs. You'd think they'd choose a flipflop.

Made a couple updates. Dolan now sporting new wheels and yet-to-be-wrapped drops. Had to ditch the "anatomic" bend. Shogun now wearing its chainring on the inside.

Thanks and yup to the patriotic colors. Have a stars and stripes kit I will likely wear with it on the 4th!
@thedapperest - I had considered selling it. The jury is out on that as I have invested more than I think I could get for it, wheel set, tires, chain ring, BB, post, saddle, stem, handlebars, levers, tape, cables and a lot of time boiling the former seat post out (was stuck).

it is a very odd choice they made to use that hub though. maybe it was a clearance hub and they got a great wholesale deal on them
