Haven’t even sat on her yet. We have a lot of snow and ice and it’s not exactly set up for that. Appreciate the kind words. Thinking about grips. Oury, Deity maybe Specialized not sure....have Zee cage on the way and gold chain. So it’s kinda experiment as I go now. Also not in hurry to getter dirty yet. I haven’t waxed the paint yet either. I do have to say the Jagwire cabling was definitely worth the extra money wow didn’t think cable could be so different. Top quality stuff for sure.

Well Done. A Stunning Restoration 👍

Color is similar to this Rockhopper I just got in a trade-off. It was in poor condition, but cleaned it up & replaced a few parts. Nothing compared to what you’ve done w/ yours’....
Needs a newer saddle & new brake pads still.

....from the 80’s I believe?

Thanks for the advice, I’m still learning as I go. Probably changing out the chain and eventually maybe add 8 speed cassette. I want to ride for awhile first to feel out the ratios I like.

Just picked up a Crane Suzu Mini bell (45mm dome), myself. Mounts via an integrated 10mm spacer on the steerer. Great long-lasting "ding." A bit higher-pitched that I thought it would be, but it's fairly loud for a small bell. I prefer the deeper, louder sound of the 55mm domed bell (which appears to be the one you have), but the Mini has the spacer mount.

Will get pics posted, once I've put the remaining drive train parts together and got it all running. ('96 Trek 970 w/ Deore XT 2x11.)

Nice, your bike sounds like a good one. Yes the bells Ding goes on for awhile, so awesome! And the brass is so classy

Need help

Gold chain and ring bolts

Nickel and black with bash guard silver crank bolts

So ultimately i want the chain ring on the outside of the crank legs but the chain line to the larger rear ring is pretty bad. So i moved it to the backside of the legs. Not wanting to see the step down on the crank legs i cit the teeth off the old outer chain ring ground the circumference smooth then sanded 320, 600, 2000 and buffed. Want your thoughts on the look. Yes no whatever. Gold chain to much? Wifey says it is lol and she is pretty smart. This is a cruiser now not a rough trail rider.

A narrower BB may correct your chainline, but the inner position is correct for the original BB and watch for crank arm strike. Colored chains are not my thing, and gold is not my fave color by far, but its your bike. Proper chain length is a bigger deal than color for me.

Are you sure? My '92 RH Sport has that same fade. Then again, Specialized liked to mix things up. Often and randomly.

'93 was the year they switched to brake noodles for the rear canti brake. Suntour XC Expert parts, It's on page 15 of the catalog :] https://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/...ec_Bikes93.pdf

Plus I have a Comp and a Sport from this year.

Original Alloy Zee Cage

Was pretty disappointed when I first got this Zee cage of Ebay. Color wise it looked like dreck on the bike. I was struggling with what colour to paint it. I ended up going with the same colour as the frame then hitting it with the yellow and black nail polish. Love how it turned out. Once it’s had time to cure I will clear coat and post a pic of it mounted. Now for the right water bottle thinking Specialized Purist insulated bottle but what colour hmm. It’s all part of the fun right...

the PNW grips were nice but looked to modern to be on this bike. Decided to go with the Specialized BG Concepts grips. Can’t beat the hand position of these babies plus my OCD is satisfied because they are Specialized. Couple things left before this ones done.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes on both, I sanded the frame in all the easier area, straight tubes. I then applied spray on paint stripper several times to remove the rest. It takes time and patience no doubt but you eventually get there. Make sure to use an aggressive sandpaper like 160 or 200 grit to make the job easier and quicker

I really dig the gold chain/bolts look on this bike. It plays well with the yellow decals and, in general, looks balleur.

^^^^ Agreed on the gold chain and bolts. It wouldn't normally be my thing, but it works very well with the decals. Gold and purple play nicely together.

Thank you for the response, victorm. That's helpful information. You've definitely inspired me to 'go the distance' for my restoration.

Enjoy riding the Stumpjumper!

Have this as my desktop background. Something about it sooths my busy mind at work. So many small details in the curves and cables. Sorry but I love it.

Bash guard progress

really didn’t want to see the crank arm end so decided to lazer cut an out bash guard guess you could call it. I took the finish to 320 grit to keep a brushed finish to offset the mirror finish on the crank arm. Let me know if any of you want something custom done.

Final decision

All that silver looked off to me so I sprayed the bash guard with some self etching primer then some black Rustoleum and matte clear. Swapped out the silver chain and chain ring bolts for the gold. Much better and such a custom look. I’m a water bottle away from finishing. The Specialized Purist are sure in limited supply these days. Shark fin chainstay guard and maybe a Carradice Bagman would look good on her🤷‍♂️

Final Alteration

the blacked out bash guard hid the chain more than I liked. I decided to zip off the long outer portion of the slots and am really happy now with the result
