Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't know if I can be happy in an apartment. I lived over half my life in apartments, but after having a backyard to just relax in - any time I want - for the last 30 years - I don't know if I can do without it.

We had a good ride. One of my club mates has a class to teach and asked to cut the course so we did 42 instead of 50 miles. Even so, was 100% fun.

Kurust arrived Monday, so yesterday I hit all the rust spots on Mrs. Peel with it. When it turned black, and dried out, I did the touch-up painting. This morning, I waxed the frame. The only thing missing now is the wheel, now somewhere between the USPS Distribution Center on Lawn Guy Land and California.

So, it's THE DAY!!!!

Under the heading of "Never do things you are not trained to do", I was making some business tax payments today, and QuickBooks told me I need to buy their new version or I would lose the payroll service component. So, decided to do the install myself on the server host and client, but it seems I had no clue how to do that. Now, I'm locked out of my databases for both of my companies, and still have the tax payments and reports due in a week.

Hopefully can get "my guy" out here in time to get me fixed.

For now, just call me "Stupid."

Went and tested out the fatbike with a double today by climbing up the steepest hill in our neck of the woods. Worked pretty sweet! 26x46 was still a little tall for two short segments but I think I might stick with it for a bit. I do have a 24t around but the 26 will be fine for 99% of trails.

I noticed my RD did not want to go to the 2 smallest cogs towards the end of the ride.

Guess what I have on the “to do” list?

I rechecked the chainrings on Mrs. Peel's crankset - 52/43. FORTY THREE? Cripes! What's the point of a 43? So I thought, maybe I could use my old 8 speed Dura Ace 39 tooth chainring from the Ritchey... Pffff... No. Teeth are all worn into little wave-lookin' things.

Must be one of them Smart Bikes that knows you can't put out the watts late in the ride and doesn't want you to hurt yourself trying.

doh. Although I do know that feeling. I spent 2 hours on a support call with the technical services dept of our accounting software when it failed to update properly. I was kind of expecting it to not go well so we made sure we ran all the tax reports before doing the update.
