Tire problems:

Hi everyone,
Hope this is the right place to post?

I recently bought a relatively inexpensive mountain bike to get fit.

I have one of those three in one car chargers that includes a compressor, i used it a lot on the bikes tires, worked great, could get as much pressure as i wanted.

Shortly after i was given a more expensive bike but the compressor would only inflate to a low pressure, the tires were thinner than the ones on mine so i thought i would swap my thicker tires onto the the bike that was given to me.

Problem is the compressor, even though it inflated them fine when on my own bike will not inflate beyond very soft when swapped to the other bike.

Was hoping someone would have an explanation for this??
Thanks so much,
Bill.

Bikes: I never learned to ride a bike. It is my deepest shame.

Sounds like a problem with the compressor unrelated to the bike.

Is there such a website as www.compressorforums.net ?

Make sure you're using the right tube size. It sounds like you put on the wider tires but used the tubes that came with the narrow tires.

Wouldn't be a problem. The tubes would just expand to fill all available space anyhow.

I recommend a bicycle floor pump with a built-in gauge.
Those 12 volt car compressors aren't worth much (unless from Porsche) and they're not designed for high pressure bike tires.
