26 inch wheel shopping
I hate to start a new thread so please point me in the right direction if one exists.
I am having a tough time finding 26 inch wheelsets to fit my 87 specialized hard rock. Front hub spacing 100mm, rear spacing 130mm between dropouts. Ideal internal width less than 25mm. Currently 6 speed cassette so don’t mind upping to 8 speed. Hubs are loose bearing so wanting sealed. Also rear isn’t quick release so hoping for QR in case of flats. Goal is QR and lighter thinner wheels than existing 26x1.95.
LBS can’t locate through their distributors as well. I tried nashbar, merlin and couple no name sites bit no luck. Any help or links appreciated, thanks in advance.

26in wheels are not very valuable so not many people are willing to ship used sets. You can usually spread the dropouts enough to fit a 135mm hub, but I have cut down a 135mm Shimano axle to 130mm before. You'll need remove a spacer, center the hub on the cut axle and possibly re dish the wheel afterward.

Thanks guys. Didn’t know the dropouts could be spread out to accommodate 135mm. That’ll definitely open up some options.

6-speed is probably threaded freewheel instead of freehub, so you'll need to buy a cassette to go on most 135mm QR wheels that you'll see available today.

Do some online digging for Shimano Deore M525/Sun Ringle wheels. The rear is 135mm with a 8/9/10 cassette. Good sturdy wheels and used to be available for less than $150. If you end up having to go 8sp, I'm a big fan of Grip Shift. They're less than $20 and just plain work.

I run the Sun Ringle wheel in the rear but a disk brake. Replaced an old Mavic wheel that cracked The Sun Ringle have rim brake versions. Good wheel with many spokes for thrashing. Above is correct. You will need a cassette but a good upgrade. I ordered mine through a local bike shop. Got a 10% discount for bike club membership.
I went disk in the rear because I had to replace my frame. Front is still rim brake. An old Ringle hub I built up so it has sentimental value.
