I have a semi-custom Lysnkey R300 with SRAM Force 1 hydraulic disc brakes. I upgraded the pads with Swissstop pads and have properly bedded in the rotors. The braking with this setup is exceptional. Quiet, powerful with easy modulation.
I took my 2009 Look 566 out for a ride last weekend. SRAM Rival rim brakes, Swissstop green brake pads, Shimano RS80 Carbon wheels with aluminum brake track. I could detect no difference in the braking capacity. Quiet, powerful, smooth with perhaps slightly more effort.
The advantage for me with disc brakes is my carbon fiber wheelset.
