Beating several dead horses:
The big hole is for a cable guide that has a big, split nub to mount it.
Shoe Goo or 3M tape are good mounting alternates.
If you drill and thread a hole in your sealed BB, be sure to hold the bike over your head - shavings in your eye are a lot better than filling the sealed cartridge up with steel shavings.
