rainedon, that's a beautiful bike. I have dreams a fixed gear like that to alternate with my current commuter.

FlippinHades, I notice you use Sheldon Browns trick of lining up the tyre label with the valve.

Nice bike.,

I've relegated my Safari (see very early in this thread) to winter commuting duties and now ride my Atlantis to work.

Here's my Trek 7300FX, with rear rack, Altura pannier, Trek wireless CPU and Bikehut carbon fibre bar ends.

I absolutely love this bike. Only cost £370 new and for that price has a super Aluminium SL butted frame and fantastic components. It's ultra light for a hybrid and crusies along beautifully at 18mph on the flat.

The Fisher is my general around town ride. The Schwinn is for rain and riding with my daughter (it is slower and heavier and does great on sidewalk bumps). The Schwinn gets knobbies for winter, too.

Here is my daily ride. I wish Bianchi made these in steel. The nexus 8sp is really nice. As you can see by the handlebar...I'm a geek, too.

That Atlantis makes me feel all warm and squishy inside.

I'm new here, but this is my favoirite thread by far. Bikes that people use for transportation are always more interesting to me than bikes that are purely used for sport.

My daily ride. The first is a red Peugeot Nice circa 1988, Reynolds 501. Niterider twin light with a Nashbar trunk bag & misc. blinkies attached. I hate the pedals but have been too lazy to replace them. I found this bike in a police auction shed. It had been there for at least 10 years and they gave it to me - free -. The gears and brakes worked perfect the first time, well, ok, the rear derailler needed a little adjustment. The tires were dryrotted and I replaced those.

The second is my foul weather bike. I've had this bike since 1991 when my wife and I bought 2 of them to ride to school. We rode them everyday for years to campus, then to work. I added the clips, Planet Bike fenders, and the rack. It's a solid bike and I still enjoy riding it although the Peugeot seems sweet now.

Cheers!

Guess I better check in my new commuter on here. Previous commuter was a Mercier Corvus called Rozinante that served me well for 14000 miles. My new commuter has 800 miles on it already, behold Dulcinea!

Thanks all for the comments, the Atlantis really is my ideal bicycle and it rides even better then it looks.

But anyway I have to say that I agree absolutely with your comment regarding utility cycling. It really is frustrating to see cycling relegated as a sport when that really is the least of its uses.

Fun to see all the "accessories" people attach to them.

No kidding. Did you see that Swedish bike with the second stem holding a light? It's in the thread about how to carry a u-lock. (A seriously mechanical question )

Here's mine - "Messala", so named for its pedals which regularly rip flesh from bone.....he was Chuck Heston's chariot nemesis in Bur Hur (oh, for a M16 back then!! )

It's an early 90s Marin Mtb....took the innertubes off the other day. It's also got the original bar ends back on now. Never used those off road, but they function quite nicely as "hoods".

That's a great commuting bike. The frame design is quick and nimble, something needed especially for intown commutes. The 26" wheels help for starting and stopping. Intown commuting is very reactive and responsive. Put a grin on your face and ride where you want to.
