done it 5 times now, full waffle. I'll do it again next yr.

Done it twice on race geo road bike with 28s, it had 53/39 standard cranks and back before when it every cool cat had a gravel bike.

I've done it 3x on my CX bike with disc brakes, 50/36 cranks. 28/32 file thread tires are still the best. One yr on 38s and was more work on the pavement century then should have been. Went back to gravel king file threads and finished 1hour faster than previous 3 attempts. Disc brakes help allot when hands are tired from all the bumps and hitting Sandy Bandy around mile 92, Dirt section goes to mile 112 tile pavement for few miles again.

Only one flat in 5 yrs, and it was 2 miles from finish so I just road the slow leak back to the line vs change it. Ran tubes in 4/5 years.

I think I'm going to do it with a couple of friends this year coming, 2020. Looks killer but a blast. I'll use my cross bike with either Challenge Strada Bianca or Tufo dry plus. 30-32mm.

it's a fun event. Challenging but fun. Vibe is great and get CHP help thru sections of the road part with rolling lane closures.

I did 32c gravelkings last yr and will do it again on that setup. Plush enough but doesn't lose speed on the paved part. Get the softer casing tire version that Challenge use and try to beat the hell out of them on the SC single tracks. You don't want anything that will sidewall cut in the rocks. I've had good luck w/ michelin tubes, hint thicker rubber for the 28C-32 but nice.
