Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? My converted Pedal Force MT. Nice light SS now.

I just need to take off the stickers on the rims as they are out of place on the build.

I will post my monocog tonight, although it is pretty stock. Seeing all the saddle to bar drops in this thread makes me think I got the wrong size of bike

A fixed gear mountain bike scares me. It seems like there would be points when you would really need to coast while doing that stuff? Like going off drops and whatnot? I don't mountain bike so maybe someone can enlighten me?

I think part of the fun of riding off road fixed is the feeling that you can die at any minute.

Regardless, it becomes second nature to just skip and get your feet in the right position for getting over logs and rocks and stuff.

^ pace carbon, if i'm not mistaken. personally, i'm drawn to the kcnc brakset...look up what those babies cost!

also, i'd wager that pretty much everything shown here is singlespeed, not fixed. mine sure is.

My saddle to bar drop is very different than most in this thread. Is the bike too big for me or should I just cut down the steerer tube and get rid of the spacers that came stock?

Here is a picture of my 17 tooth Tomicog mounted on the disc side of the rear wheel.

Anyone of these use 650c?

Is that a good size rim for a project like this?

650c is usually a road type wheel IE Tri-bikes, I'd stick with the regular 26" or 29"

Using 26 inch wheels gives you more tire options and is usually cheaper. You can get road slicks in the 26 inch size.

The first bike is mine... I converted it from a bare frame to a SS...

The second one I built for my brother for Christmas... It really is a convert.
