Just Couldn’t do it!
My wife and I have been cleaning out my mothers house, she had passed last fall, and we are getting the house ready to sell. Unbeknownst to us, she had been a bit of a hoarder, house was nothing but spic and span, but the closets were packed, lots of time and effort, to get rid of everything. Anyway my wife has been stating that we have too much stuff in our house, let’s start purging, whilst looking squarely at me.
I admit my bike collection has grown, hate to tell her there is one more on the way, so I was thinking maybe I could get rid of one or two. Found one that I hadn’t ridden in the last two years, and started to clean it up, didn’t need much more then dusting, pretty much perfect, and was gonna use this forum to sell it, Took some pics, got the serial number, and wrote the ad. As I was editing the pics for the add, it hit me that this was one of the best looking bikes I own, so nixed the ad thing, and vowed to ride it more.

Yeah, if I owned that bike in that condition in my size, I'd never sell it. Pretty much the perfect bike and it has the CPSC approved front derailleur so you don't have to worry about cutting your leg off, or something.

@plonz, Thanks, when I got the bike from the original owner, had a Regina freewheel and chain. I live at the top of a rather large hill, the 21t large cog was not cutting, or rather I wasn’t. Went online and found the chain and freewheel as a set from Vintage Steel Bikes in Berlin. They advertised it as re-gearing up grade for vintage Campagnolo drivetrains. Not that impressed by the freewheel, but the set works well together, and noticeable improvement in shifting. Saved the Regina bits for the next owner.

That Trek is a keeper for sure. One thing is for sure, if you sell it some one is getting a nice bike. Try riding it for a while before you make a decision, unless it is the wrong size for you. Right now in my area, a bike like that won’t fetch what it is worth. Treks are nice bikes and that one is a beauty. Joe

It's worth considering...
...what your wife has said. Talk about what it took to clear our your mother's house. My condolences to you on her passing. My mom died in 2018, although we had to move her out from her house in 2015. Similar situation - spotless house crammed with too many things in storage areas. It was a real effort to clear...
I hope that you and your wife find a compromise position that addresses both of your needs.
