Light Bicycle Wheels

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Reading through an article yesterday from DT they seemed to recommend the 36T as the best balance for roadies and only really recommended the 54T for trail riders. Supposedly the durability gets worse the more teeth you add so that's a factor for heavier riders also.

My AR36's showed up today...out of the box they look very nice, but the real test comes tomorrow when I take them for their first ride.

Very nice.. unfortunate (but not very serious in the scheme of things) that the rear tire's Continental logo isn't directly opposite the 5000 logo (like it is on the front tire. A bit odd..

That's grounds to return it as a defect.

I have the 54t ring on my bike, and I love the sound. No need to warn pedestrians, just coast for a few seconds. They'll hear you coming.

Gorgeous bike. Sorry if you mentioned before, but what wheels are those?

Easy mistake to make. The thread title is the brand name, it’s a bit confusing but it’s the name they chose.

New guy mistake, I thought the earlier comment referred to the tires. They look great.

They were purchased from Excel Sports. I've purchased several GP5000's from them and haven't had an issue with the others.
They come in factory packaging so I assumed that they are legit/first runs...on the other hand, they are quite a bit cheaper than most other places, so...?

No worries, but yah, they are from Light Bicycle and are the AR36 model.

The other comments are referring to the tires, and the annoying placed logo.

I was under the impression that the tire on the rear was the correct one, and the one on the front is different from most.

Could it be that continental finally realized that nobody can see the “GrandPrix” part of their logo and aligned the 5000 with “Continental”?

On the front tire, are the “5000” logos directly opposed from each other?

No, the 5000 logos are offset from each other, on both tires. But on the NDS of the rear tire, the Continental and 5000 logos are directly across from each other.

Then, here is a photo of the tires on my CLX50's...the logos are in the same locations on both tires, and are 180° apart. I think it's just a misprint on that one tire. Which is annoying, but not worth the hassle from returning

You are right - it is likely just a printing mess-up.

And you are also correct - it isnt worth the hassle of returning. You need to bin that entire bike and get a new one, just to be safe....

I bought 2 GP5000's from wiggle and one of them is offset like that. I think it's a common problem and a really annoying one if you have OCD.

Oh that's deliberate just to emphasise that they are handmade artisanal tyres. I'd ask for a refund on the one that lines up perfectly.

Hello everyone! I wonder does anybody have problems concerning deliverance of LightBicycle wheelsets now? I ordered a wheelset on the 25 of March. On the 20 of April it was finished and ready to be sent. And since then I receive letters from them< that they are having problems with EMS and cannot send me my wheels.

Did anybody come across this problem the last month?

This is the first I heard this. Have you contacted them about a resolution? I ordered a set on April 24th, and they just cleared QC and are in the que to be built. I'm hoping they have this problem solved by shipping time.

I got something about EMS in an email from them while they were confirming my shipping address. I don't know if it'll ship with their usual alacrity or if it'll be a waiting game. I can be patient: the rim I ordered is for a wheel I want to build, not a wheel I really need to build, so if takes an extra couple of weeks due to the worldwide pandemic, I think I'll be fine.

Btw, public service announcement: if anyone was ever curious whether they could get a custom logo put onto the rim by Light-Bicycle and how much it would cost, the answers are "yes" and $85. Hopefully I'll have something cool to show here in a few weeks.

EMS shipping taking about 45 days according to LB. Problems with securing planes to actually move the gear, plus backlog

Got this email this morning

20~25 Days FedEx Logistics Instead of EMS Delivery is Available for Your Order Due to COVID-19

Dear Sir,

Your attention please. As a result of the ongoing pandemic worldwide, EMS shipping service has slowed down significantly and rejects non-essential business recently. Now we will work with FedEx logistic shipping to deliver your order within 3-4 weeks of global transportation. Shall you need to change it to urgent delivery with FedEx expressing services which typically would be nearly triple the price of EMS shipping, please email us to discuss more asap if you need to do the change.

Be in touch if you have any further questions.

Best regards,

A little bait and switch on the shipping. I guess I’m OK with it for one dollar. It would look better if they were upfront about it. I have the option to express the shipping, but it’s not that important that I can’t wait.

I've installed maybe 50 5000GPs on wheels at this point, and the graphics are a bit weird. On every tire I've seen, the bigger logo appears to be offset from the smaller logo on the opposite side. But it's not. There's a blacked out part, and the entirety of that graphic centers with the smaller "5000" graphic. When installed correctly, it looks a bit unbalanced. It's an odd graphic design choice. The entirety of the big logo is balanced 180* to the smaller logo, but the part you notice - the white part - isn't.

In this photo, the front wheel is rotated just a tiny bit past vertical. If the 5000 logo at the stem was centered on the stem and the wheel made completely vertical, it would look the same as the rear. It's just an odd graphic layout on the tire.

Ahh.. that explains some of it (ie. the blacked out portion of the logo). However, even with that, the original photo posted (not the one that Seattle referred to) does have a miscentered logo (even with the black part accounted for I think).. ie. this one
