Good day everyone! Excuse me if there are no pictures to show because I have not yet made 10 posts, well...you know what that means.


So the story is that I've bought a vintage road bike for $100 from a old barn here in the Philippines. Initially, the bike was heavily painted in white, so when we took the paint off, we saw the following details in the frame.

-Cinelli bottom bracket

-Cinelli seatstay arch

-'R" logo in fork and headtube lugs

-Columbus SLX tubing


Now, because of these, and the fact that the bike came with a 1st gen Campy Super Record Gruppo, Headset and Wheels, I initially thought that it was a 80's Cinelli Supercorsa. Already a pretty sweet find for me.


But there was something wrong, what is that "R" logo. So I knew my research was flawed. After showing some pictures to other vintage bike enthusiasts in our country, someone said that it was a Rossin frameset with Cinelli stuff mixed with it, all the others just said that it was a rare find. Upon further research I can tell that the fork, and all the other lugs save for the B.B. lug resembles that of a Rossin Super Record. But this discovery confuses me badly, so I have some questions that I know might be easily answered.


How did some Cinelli frame parts find its way into this frame? Which leads to another question...

Does this make the frame legitimate or was it kinda messed up by some local frame builder? Marco Rossin was actually a highly respectable frame builder back then that came from Colnago, maybe this was one of his earlier bikes?

Does it look like this? Or does the BB shell resemble the Cinelli Supercorsa BB?

It looks exactly like a Rossin Strada Professional bottom bracket, but with the Cinelli logo on it instead of an "R", that's another major thing that makes my whole family confused...

@Imbiker13 - Not all, and that is most, bike brands do not manufacture all the parts any more than they manufacture tubing. In fact, most "Assemble" the parts they buy and design the frame using those parts. There are exceptions like Pinarello, Colnago, etc. Many buy BB shells from Cinelli and modify them with their Logo.

Not a Rossin "R" but do not recognize this one. If it has Cinelli frame bits (BB shell, stay bridge, etc.) it can't be bad but does not appear to be one of the major Italian brands that begin with "R". Maybe do an image search/match with that pic? Or send up the Bat-signal for the experts, like MauriceMoss !

Those bottom brackets, brake bridges and other frame bits were sold to any manufacturers who wanted to use them, so you will find those on a lot of different frames.

The frame here should be a Rebellato (a shop that's still in operation in Castelfranco Veneto). I don't know if they manufactured any frames on premises in the past, but a lot of Rebellato badged frames I've seen looked like contract builds (Grandis, Tecnotelai, Biemmezeta, Vetta, etc.). Looking at the headlugs and the bottom bracket (including the size stamp), I would say this particular frame was made by Vetta.

Wow, just...wow! Bats aside that is another case closed, Commissioner, thanks to the Maestro-Mister-Maurice-Moss! I have never even heard of Rebellato, but I am convinced and convinced of the Vetta connection, too!
