4th of July

Just going to say it, Happy 4th of July.

And while I realize there is vast change circling all it entails, we're still here doing what we love because of all that came before, good, bad and ugly.

Like some of my bike projects, our American republic is still very much a work in progress, with it's own strengths and flaws, but still worth doggedly chipping away at with a sense of cautious optimism, attempting improvements.

Thank you and same to you sir! Even though we should do it differently this year, I think we still celebrate. And since this is a circle of bike nerds, I give you this. There was no way I could not ride this today, even just a few miles, and get a pic with TJ. He should be honored today of all days (he also died on this day in 1826] with acknowledgement of the complexities that made him who he was, just like they form the fabric of this diverse and strange nation.

Thank you too sir.

the Paletti.

And despite any shortcomings, hate to say it seems someone should be standing guard on that magnificent monument.

On my ride today, saw people getting together in small groups and celebrating in spite of the times.

Had to ride through several clouds of very tasty-smelling BBQ smoke.

In 1989, a Philadelphia man found an original Dunlap Broadside hidden in the back of a picture frame he bought at a flea market for $4. One of the few surviving copies from the official first printing of the Declaration, it was in excellent condition and sold for $8.1 million in 2000.
I'm in the wrong game.

I did too, the tent sale fireworks business was booming (P the P) this year including a lot of sky rockets that are supposed to be illegal, at least in my neighborhood.

Didn't have time to ride so this is the best I can do. The French would be appalled.
