Upgrading DAHON Curl I3
I have got this CURL i3 for a while.
The ride was OK, but toooo heavy.
13kg didn't sound very inetresting.
Fenders and rack are not needed, in my case. So removed.
Handlebar set, saddle&post set, caliper set, tyre set and some other parts are also upgraded.
As a result, it is now 9.9kg.
I am thinking to replace the IGH system with a standard drivrtrain, which will bring significantly less weight (I am thinking about 8.5kg) and a better riding experience.
But since I can't find a reference mod, the feasibility is still uncertain.
Hope you like the pictures.
Will keep you posted.
Thanks.

Nice work. What dropout? Chain rub? How the stability of the folded bike w/o the rack? Thanks!

It seems CURL frame was designed for standard drivetrain, but I dont why DAHON only make IGH models.
When folded, it is unstable without the rack. But if I use a long seat post (instead of this shown telescope one), it will also work.
It is still being tuned, not fully set up yet.

Gorgeous set up.
What was you latest weight? and how would you compare its ride and fold to your Brommie?
My challenge has alawys been cutting weight without losing stiffness

I’d love to see it folded, the bike looks so smart.
i have just ordered one and want to do some of what you’ve done especially the drivetrain.
thanks and keep up the good work.
