Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've just brought this bike and I'd like some feedback on it's age, value? I know a little about the alan name but i'm finding it difficult to find any facts about this bike.

Description below:
Frame Aluminium with Carbon rear-stays 56cm
Brakes Campagnolo Chorus
Levers Campagnolo Daytona 10 Speed
Saddle Selle
Crank Campagnolo Daytona Double
Front Mech. Campagnolo Mirage
Rear Mech. Campagnolo Centaur
Hubs Campagnolo
Rims Rigida
Tyres Michelin Pro Race
Bars Cenelli
Stem Planet X
Pedals Look
Seat post Campagnolo Record Titanium 27.2, 250mm

Heres hoping.

You ask after you bought the bike?

As for age, I'd gues that fork is 10 or more years old. Some of the components are newer than that, and my wild ass guess is the frame late 90's to early 2000's.

Just ride it and enjoy.

Looks like a pretty nice bike based the components.

I don't know much about the frame, but you may want to check Classic and Vintage and see what they have to say. They're usually more knowledgeable about older bikes.

There's also a sub forum that lets people appraise the cost of your bike.

^ that bike is neither classic nor vintage. Not old enough to be vintage, and tig welded Al with CF stays isn't exactly classic.

This would be the vintage ALAN bikes: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/vrbn-a-f.html#alan

A bit of history about ALAN. https://www.alanbike.net/2009/about

They were one of the first Aluminum frames, and were a big deal in their era. Light, but whippy.

Also, I'd inspect that fork carefully particularly the junction between the AL crown and CF legs.

Thanks for the advise paid £350 for the bike it's very quick. Have picked up advise on other forums that there was an old problem with forks. Some old frames were recalled. Have had mine checked out and am keeping an eye on all bonded parts.

Could be tempted for a part ex somewhere for a younger model.
