I am a big fan of Electra townies and have a 21d and love it (~2000+ miles) but the frame/seat position isn't for everyone. I would try to test ride and go up a hill if that will be in your terrain.
Differences from mine are 700c vs 26 inch, disc vs V brakes, 9 speed cassette vs 7speed freewheel and a dyno hub/light? And racks, but those can be added. Handlebars look different and more swept back.
I also have a 7d and 3i.

I have Townie 21D with a suspension front fork. It has a lot of miles, still looks and rides great. The Commute 27D is beautiful. It is nicer than a 21D. If money is no problem, get it, you won't be sorry.....OH! Electras, they're excellent bikes, but not geared for speed (neither am I).
