[Dahon/Tern] Brompton-like baggage block?

Hello

Rather than the longer solution proposed by Dahon/Tern to hold a bag in the front, I'd rather use a Brompton-like baggage block because 1) it can hold more (7kg vs. 10kg) and 2) the bag doesn't move sideways as much.

What I'd like are solutions 3. At worst, I can always hang a bag from the head/steering tube using solution 2, but it makes steering harder.

Does someone know why Klickfix et al. don't make similar luggage blocks for Dahon/Tern?

Thank you.

Klick Fix is the company making the parts that fit the DaHon ..

once again, your answer why is best directed to the Rixen and Kaul company , not this bunch of Spectators .

I note the build options for Bike Friday's Tikit, now include the brazing on of the little piece to the headtube, making fitting a Brompton carrier block

why doesn't Renault make cars like Mercedes?

Does someone know why Klickfix et al. don't make similar luggage blocks for Dahon/Tern?
No one paid them to make them.. with a order of 10,000 or so units to justify making the injection Mold ?

Rixen and Kaul/Klickfix doesn't provide a way to contact them:

Start at the dealers and distributors and work back up the supply chain.

If the Why answer is that importsant to you (or let it drop and worry about something else )

Obviously, I already contacted the local distributor, no result.

It's not that I worry, it's that I need something better, and it made sense to ask. If you don't care about a topic, feel free not to read/reply.

The head tube piece added outside the Front of the headset is Different .. they are some what similar but not compatible ..

Also seen (pictures Online) buying the DaHon front truss then Modifying It to take a cut down Brompton Block .

Next we sort out why some countries drive on the right side of the road and why others drive on the left side .

Hello,

For me using the truss is the only way to go

1st, i believe they calculated the load based on actual headtube strength. Dahon is aluminium vs brompton is steel.

2nd, i think they look better slightly extended. Brompton has its own appeal and i really could not imagine imitate the look on a dahon.

3rd, with the way dahon cable routing it really gives more space

Thanks. So it looks like at this point, the truss is the only way to go

But considering its length, doesn't a truss limit the maximum weight a bag can have, as opposed to a luggage block à la Brompton that would keep the weight closer to the frame?

Too bad neither Dahon nor Tern were interested in that alternative (which might be open sourced):

Or better yet, find a friend who owns a workshop to customize your carriage block.

He welded a bracket on the headtube of a 16 years old Neobike brompton (they don't have the carrier system back then). here is a before and after picture of this restoration project. We also DIY the eazy wheels and rear frame hook.

Good to know.

Incidently, does someone know if ABS is strong enough to build a luggage block with a 3D printer?

Peter's Brompton Front Carrier Block by nycewheels on Shapeways

Probably not strong enough. It might be possible to custom made a "3 screws (dahon) to 2 screws (brompton) adpater / aluminum or stainless block" Then use the brompton carrier block on it.

It is bundled together with the B203B Office Bag City. I wrote to them to purchase the adapter separately without the bag. It fits Dahon, Tern and Flamingo London perfectly.

BTW, why is Vincita's alternative (adapter + different Klickfix adapter) better than the Dahon/Tern solution (luggage truss + Klickfix adapter)?

Does it carry more and/or wiggle less?

For those interested, Vincita's solution (Vincita adapter + Klickfix bracket) sells for 60 USD.

i have not used the Tern Luggage Truss before as I do not like the "Phallic" look.
the Vincita adaptor is very stable and can carry heavier weight.

More infos about the Vincita + Klickfix option vs. Tern/Dahon luggage truss + Klickfix:

Our adapter can hold the same as Klickfix handlebar adapter which is up to 7 kg. The difference is the shape and position of the adapter, ours is more close to the bicycle.

As for your requirement, I think Kanga Vario rack will suite your need better.
So it doesn't hold more, but it might wiggle a bit less.

As to why no one makes a Brompton-compatible block so that Tern/Dahon users can also use Brompton-specific bags…
