8 speed bike to 11 speed.

Hello,

I've been looking on internet and I haven't found any clear answer. I want to build a bike using an frame I already have. My problem is that this bike use to have an 8 speed cassette and wheels. I want to upgrade it to 11 speeds. Are the 11 speeds wheels going to be too wide for the frame?
Thanks,
Marc

No, you will be fine, especially if you are upgrading the wheels. Welcome to BF!

The 11-speed rear wheel will fit fine. But 11-speed is not an upgrade, in my opinion. All my bikes that aren't fixed gear or single speed are either 7S or 8S.

Need some more info. If you are running a road bike cassette you will have to go with a shimano 11-34 or larger. 11-32 and smaller 11 speed road cassettes won't fit on the older freehub bodies.

To amswer the OP’s actual question, which infers new wheels, check the OLD to make sure. Many new 11 speed wheelsets use a 130OLD, same as tour 8 speed ones;, some use a wider 135.

There should be no new wheels that use a 135mm axle length for a rim brake frame. If they do, it's something odd ball. Every wheel that Campy makes for rim brakes has 130mm spacing. An 8 speed frame should have 130mm spacing.
