Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is probikekit legit?

I've been looking at their pricing on complete 5800/6800 groupsets and they're 20% cheaper than just about anyone else. I learned early in life that if something looks too good to be true, it probably isn't true. Is this like some kind of 47th Street photo deal, i.e., grey market or an upsell place?

They are a real company with some good deals, but I've had some slimy interactions with them.

For groups/components, I prefer Merlin (another UK vendor). I've found their prices to be similar and they have not jerked me around.

Not used them myself but other UK companies to look for are Ribble Cycles, Wiggle, Chain Reaction Cycles and the aforementioned Merlin Cycles who all sell for around the same price as PBK.

I've only had experience with the first two and have been happy everytime.

You have to search and read the results. I get several pages of results here about threads that discuss PBK. Never the less, the one time I bought from them they did slightly screw up my order. I have ordered from Ribble and Merlin dozens of times with no problems and prices are all generally the same. In fact I think Merlin and Ribble are usually cheaper then PBK

I've ordered from merlin, chain reaction, PBK and ribble.. no issues with any. Nothing major though, just tires, parts etc.

PBK is legit. I've ordered a few times from them. Shipping seemed to take longer than the other UK retailers, but it got here.

I've used them twice and have been screwed twice. I guess I am the exception here.

I'm currently in a credit card dispute with them right now. And will never use them again.

He wasn't being a smart ass. Even though you didn't do due diligence on the subject I'll help you anyway.

Pro Bike Kit is very legit but they aren't the cheapest place to purchase components. They are still more expensive than Ribble and Merlin.

Used to buy from them all the time when I lived in NJ. Just bought a jersey from them on the 7th, it was shipped the next day and I got it two days ago. No issues, it just takes longer to get stuff than it used to but that goes for all the UK retailers.

I ordered small stuff from them. They got the address wrong and shipped it to a neighbor's house down the street.

I've used them multiple times with (mostly) good results. One time a package was lost in shipping, they refunded without any issues.

As mentioned, there are alternatives from the UK with a wider selection and similar prices.

The whole industry is messed up. I know LBS owners here in the US that can get product from the UK online dealers cheaper than they can get from their US-based distributors. Don't know why, that's just the way it its.

ive bought from them.... chain reaction, and merlin.

pbk and merlin were non track able shipments untill they hit the us but both came in about 10 days.

tons of bad stuff posted about pbk but i didnt have any problems.

I ordered a crank from chain reactions and it shipped on their dime with tracking for free and was to my door in four days..including the weekend. i was blown away.

If the question is just that, Google (or something similar) is a good way to find out. 52,000 Facebook likes, participates in LinkedIn, and lots of other things. That gives you immediate info without waiting for BF responses to dribble in.
