hypertext link not working for me; are others able to view it?

keep in mind that any time more than one marking is present it is possible that one of them may have been put in by a licensing agency

I'm sure that wasn't intended to be a link, just information.

Unfortunately, I've never seen any present day useful knowledge (year, paint code, model, etc.) gained from a Motobécane serial number. It is only useful as a unique identifier for the frame.

Motobecane serial numbers seem to be all over the place.

Once upon an attempt to figure them out: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...-database.html

There was no rhyme or reason to serial numbers on most French production bikes. About 10 years back we did a 1 year project on the GitaneUSA.com website and came to that conclusion.

The best thing that we came up with was the numbers stamped into those frames were production or more likely order numbers.

I have or have had about 10 Motos... Those numbers mean nothing either....

I have 2 1988 Peugeot Biarritz bikes with identical "serial" numbers!

All of those companies are long gone 30 to 40 years ago along with all the records of serial numbers with them.

We imported Andre Bertin bikes in the 70's. After the imposition of the CPSC (US Consumer Protection Safety Commission) regulations came into to play in the late 70's, we had Bertin stamp traceable serial numbers into the frames.

They're gone, so is our company, so what's the significance?

Save your numbers for the Lotto!
